I know this is an old post but I have the same problem as bagins and my air filter is exactly like he discribed. I was searching for info on the FPCU when I came uppon this post. The car feels like it has low fuel pressure. Does bagins still hang out here or does any1 know if he got it sorted?

It doesn´t work like that. The cap controls the system pressure. If the headgasket is blown there will be too much pressure in the water system. The cap will relese the pressure to the overflow tank. If your tank is allways full you got a blown gasket.

I dont think there is a special map for the 5th gear. There is nothing that tells the ECU that the car is in 5th.

Here is the diagnostic procedure. Does the engine run ? What type of PTU does your car have ? Does anyone know if there are still problems with the newer type ?

I get 11psi of boost. The ignition is 15°, I tried to advance it to 17° but I got det. at full boost. So its very much on the limit right now. My next step is to get SE chip.

Finally got my car tested again. The result was better than I expected. It is now 290 @ the wheel 310 @ flywheel. That's 50 bhp for a very simple mod. Decat, K&N cone and 1.2mm jets.

Where can I buy a SE chip ? Is it only avalable from Silvia Engineering ? Do they have an e-mail ?

I have a US car and I would not say it has a soft suspension. The sport setting is very hard. I don't believe your cars are stiffer.

My car is manual and engine output is 270 so the loss is 30 bhp. This is a US car so it is suppose to be 300. There are only 2 dynos here and one of them is in a school and I don't think I can have it tested there to compare the dynos.

Got my TT dynotested today. It was measured 241 bhp at the wheels and 423 NM torque. I actually was not expecting more power, think a saw a post somewhere saying they are around 240 at the wheels. The car is standard got 9 psi of boost. I am going to remove the cats, put in a K&N filter and a pair of boost jets and then test it again. I will post the results.

What kind of fuel are you running on there in UK ? I run on 95oct and Im thinkin of running the boost a litle higher. The car is standard exept for decat and Im thinkin of going to 12-14psi. Is that safe ?

I know what you mean. If this is the case you should be able to press the withdrawal lever back with the engine running and therefore the bearing should stop spinning. Worth a try.

Got mine on the road last week . Its been broken since 1998 when the timing belt went bye-bye!!! I got the car last summer and finally got it running. Took the car to MOT today and went through with out any comments:D What a car.

IMO it cant be the thrust bearing. It doesnt spin until you press the clutch pedal down and then the gearbox stops turning. So it should only sound when you press the pedal if the thrust bearing is broken.

There is a control box/reley below the switch. Mine didnt work at all and a new reley solved that.

Sounds like gearbox bearing(s) to me. Does the sound change trough the gears?

You need a compression tester or meter to do this properly. But you should be able to see if it is completely dead by holding something tightly over the plug hole while som1 starts the car. First you must disable the car from running like unplug the fuelpump relay.

You should check the compression on that cylinder, if ok it must be faulty injector or connection.

Thx guys. Andy, what do you mean by pivot pin ? Is it the pin that the lever sits on ? BTW the labour cost is none as i am a mec. It is just getting parts to this island of nowere.
