  1. I'm thinking of changing my stock uk-spec wheels (7.5J F, 8.5J R). Of all the wheels I've seen so far, I really like the Rays wheels fitted to the GT-pack 350Z. These are 9J F, 9.5J R. Now, I'm not too clued up on wheels, but will 9J's on the front affect the handling? And should I stick with the 350Z tyre sizes? Incidentally, I've just spent the whole evening cutting up little bits of 350Z brochures (the wheels) and pritstik'ing them on to photos of my zed! Call me old fashioned, but its more fun than photoshop :) Advice please. Dave =========================================== You will pay for your sins. (If you have already paid, please disregard this message) ===========================================
  2. I agree with previous post. In a situation like this, you have to start with a base point - and an empty sump is a good start! A measured 4 litres should fill the engine (that's if you replace the oil filter). Can't quite see for the life of me how a sump full of oil can dissapear and reappear on the dipstick, as there are several return drains to the sump, unless the main gallery is completely crudded up and gunky as hell inside. Either way, it sounds like you accidentally over-filled it, so I hope your seals are still ok.
  3. Thanks for that. If I make gravy a bit too thin, I just add a bit of flour, so might try that with the Mobil 1 ? I was gonna use olive oil like andyduff suggested somewhere in a previous post, but the stuff I've got is well past it's best-before-date, so not sure if this would harm the engine...
  4. Hi everyone. No, please, stay seated. Subscribed today by PayPay, after a couple of months of 'voyeurism'. Can't wait to take advantage of the, er, full benefits that this will bring :D As a new zed owner, I'm particularly interested in andyduff's valued  opinion on which brand of engine oi...... ;) No, seriously, doing my first oil change tomorrow and I'm sticking in Mobil 1. And yes, I'm another Dave! BFN
  5. And there I was thinking it was just my girlfriend who was being unreasonable! I guess she'll come around to my way of thinking in the end. Of course, she could just be hankering for that Nissan Figaro on sale down the road. Now there's a nice cheap runabout for the family... Dave As you walk down the fairway of life you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round.
  6. I've only had my lovely zed a couple of weeks, and already my g/f hates it! She cites six reasons why my '94 uk-spec TT, low mileage, FSH purchase is a complete waste of money: 1. "Totally impractical for taking my mum (aged 83!) and kids (18/15/12) out at the weekend." I disagree - mum and kids love it! (except mum is too deaf to hear the turbos spool up...). 2. "Ridiculously expensive to maintain." (Fair cop) 3. "Won't fit in the garage, coz it's too wide and the door won't open." Disagree - I could climb in and out thru the targa .... 4. "You wash it more often than you wash yourself." (Fair cop again). 5. "You drive like a granny over all the speed bumps we have around here." (ok, she has me on that one too) 6. "Since you've bought it, you're always at the filling station." - Yes dear, because it has a smaller fuel tank than my previous car. At least she hasn't started the "either the zed goes or I do" routine yet, but if she does, I guess I'll have to be realistic, and move my baby on to a new home. If that happens, I'll post some pics of her so you can make me an offer (on the g/f, not the zed).
  7. DO NOT READ BEFORE GOING TO BED (!) There's not a lot I don't know about ghosts. My ex-wife was, and still is, a real-life 'ghostbuster' (yes, they do exist!), and I've repaired more EMF meters (thats a ghost-meter) than I care to remember! The ghosts that fascinate me (and very relavant to us petrolheads) are what are known as 'final journey ghosts'. This is a ghost that appears as an unmanned vehicle travelling at high speed over its' final route. Phantom cars, trucks, trains etc that have all crashed violently, killing driver and/or passengers. Could explain those freaky experiences, where a car travelling behind you at night seems to just vanish into thin air, when you know there's nowhere for it to go ....
  8. Thanks everyone for the, er.., kind words of encouragement. It's been barely a week now since I took ownership, so clearly I'm still on 'honeymoon', but I take on board all the advice about regular maintenance etc. Dave p.s. Haven't found the limits of the car yet - only the limits of the driver, but I believe the auto box is probably helping to keep me on the black stuff...
  9. ... a uk original spec '94 TT auto. FSH 2 owners. Of course, the worries are already starting to creep in.... Drives superb, everything that should work does. No knocking, rattles, smoke or squeeks. No crisis whatsoever on my first longhaul trip. Is this normal? Or is my Z just luring me into a false sense of security? Am I likely to have a love/hate relationship with my new car? Can all the tales of woe on this site be about the same 300zx model that I have? For sure, this car has to be the best car I have ever owned! Ok, so my g/f hates it, but she's expendable. My mum loves it, and that's good enough for me. So, a big 'hi' to all fellow zed owners out there. Where have I been all my life? Dave Driver carries no cash (divorced)
