  4. More rewording of the question ;) ... Ok, another way of asking the question: £30/3 = £10 each initially A B C 10 10 10 (1) (1) (1) returned (PLUS[\b] £2 nicked) --- --- --- 9 + 9 + 9 = £27 Porter has the £2, add £27 = £29, where's the other pound? ;)
  5. Plus Dave, thats not a solution - just the situaion reworded... ;)
  6. Ah there you are Dave ;):D "of that £27 the porter took £2..." the porters bit isn't part of the 3x£9. Try again :D

  8. Three men are out on the town on a saturday night. They get so drunk and miss the last bus home. One of the men says "why dont we get a room in a hotel"?? So they find the nearest hotel and go upto reception. The receptionist tells them there is only one room left and the price is £30. The three men each shove £10 on the desk and are shown to there room. Five minutes later the receptionist realises that she has charged them the midweek price instead of the £25 weekend rate. She gets five pounds out of the till and tells the porter to take the change upto the three men. The unscrupulous porter puts two pounds in his pocket and tells the men they were overcharged by £3, each of the men takes back £1 meaning that they have only paid £9 for the room each... 3x9=27, add £2 from the porters pocket which takes it to £29 wheres the last pound gone??? Whats going on there??? ;)
