K&n filters use oil and particles of that oil lodge themselves on the afm hotwire and render if it more ineffective! Apexi is the only way forward ;)

Just to make you all feel better about the second wipe for the wipers, it is an aerodynamic feature, the wiper on the second stroke tucks itself down a little further into the scuttle panel :)
