  1. Hi, I'm having problems with the fuel pump ecu. Firstly I'm not great with electronics so sorry if something I say doesn't make sense :). The car was having trouble starting, wouldn't kick in until the throttle was pressed down and then it would catch. Plus some time back there had been a smell of hot wiring which went away. I decided to have a look at the ecu and found it running hot. Long story short there was a diode, d5 on the pcb running at 130C. Plus some of the mosfets looked a bit scorched. I took them out and tested them as best I could using youtube and found 1 okay, 1 seemed off all the time and 2 on all the time. I have bought a second hand ecu and I'm waiting for it to come in but I'm nervous about sticking it in in case the same thing happens again. On some of the US sites it's claimed that this can be caused by a dodgy fuel pump? I'd be very grateful for any info or insights that might enlighten me!!! Thanks.

Looks impressive! At least 3 of us Irish owners hoping to get over for the day from Dublin on Sun 14th, any comp code for tickets? ???
  3. That sounds like a good idea thanks. I need to have a look there because my speedo (in kms) has been adjusted as if kms = miles, i.e 40km/h is actually 40 mph. Makes sense since the car came from England but I'm in kms so need to revert back to original Japan spec.
  4. Hi, working my way through the various issues on my 1990 tt. The weirdest one is the fact that my low fuel warning light, which was working perfectly, has now stopped. Instead it lights up when I open either door or the boot. Would appreciate any pointers! I've been repairing both instrument cluster yokes, wipers/lights as they were both badly cracked, the wiper one was causing the indicator malfunction when the hazard wasn't fully off syndrome but I doubt that has anything to do with the fuel light? But I wouldn't be surprised ?
  5. My main problem is living in Ireland. There is a guy selling 7 non working clocks on ebay for £47.50. Add post and taxes at £31.33 and it's £78.83 or nearly €100. Figures get a bit messy at that stage. And that's presuming they're all fixable. I'd be more open to having broken ones sent direct to me and having a go for nothing outside the postage cost of returning the clock, fixed or not. But therein lies a minefield methinks!
  6. Haha, thanks but I'll quit while I'm ahead! No, it's an easy fix (if the problem is dry solder). Anybody with an iron could resolder all the joints in a couple of minutes. And I'd expect that to be the issue in most cases.
  7. Thanks, a very satisfying outcome!
  8. The clock in my newish (1990) wasn't working so I decided to have a go at it. Solder joints seem to be the main problem so I took mine apart so have a look. It has the 2 piece pcb so I split it by unsoldering the connections at the H and M end, 3 on each side which let me separate them. Using an iron and thin solder I resoldered every joint I could see, I didn't bother unsoldering anything first as the new solder mixed with the old. Took about 10 minutes. Put it back and it worked! That was yesterday. Today a friend with a 1992 300 came in with the same problem. His clock has a one piece pcb. Same plan, resolder everything in sight. Again, it's working. I mess about with Marshall amps and 99% of the problems are bad solder joints so I was happy enough that these clocks would be the same. You really need an iron with a fine tip and thin solder, plus a solder sucker can be useful. Fingers crossed but no reason to think it won't last.

  10. Excellent Andrew, thank you! A load of good info attached re parts etc, Perfect!
  11. Hi Conn, if you give me your mobile I'll pass it on to John who's admin and get him to sign you up. As I said you have to have a Z to join. Cheers Dave

  13. Coming shortly Bones! Got the loan of a ramp so been busy putting new coilovers in as the clearance was about 10cms ?. Now a better 15cms ?
  14. Thanks Gaz. There's a Cars and Coffee meet in Dundalk Oct 10th in aid of Barretstown. Should be a few 300's from the Irish Z/ZX Drivers Whatsapp Group there. I think there's around 60 members in the group and you have to have a Z to be a member so it's pretty active.
  15. Thanks Andrew. I'm good with the 30 year rule but an actual date would be great. GCZ32-509720. Cheers.
  16. Thanks Conn. Are you a member of the Irish Z/ZX Drivers Group on Whatsapp? There's talk of a meet up in Mullingar/Athlone Sun 19th Sept.
  17. Hi guys Just got myself a 1990 300 tt which had been imported from the UK. Needs a bit of work but basically sound. The normal road tax on a 3 litre machine in Ireland is about €1400 but that drops to €56 after it hits 30 years so it's affordable. There's a decent 300 ownership in Ireland, Z31, 32 and a few 33's and 34's but the Z32's are in the majority. I've signed up here for info/advice and general knowledge and look forward to being around for a while. Great cars and great owners!
