I remember someone posting a thread about repainting the trims that run either side of the windscreen and along the targas, but I can't find it anywhere. I just wanted to know what sort of paint to use to do mine, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Phill

The best paint you can get for it is Plastidip. Its a spray on rubber coating ! and its fantatstic. I have done all my door trims and scuttle panels in it.

Its a UK company, google it. They also sell on ebay.

Thats what i used different make but same thing, stays flexible and it gives a nice matt black finish. Works great on all the rubber bits and trims.

Ordered some Plastidip spray direct from http://www.Plastidip.co.uk yesterday lunch time and it arrived this morning! Just need to wait for the weather to do the job now.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

yeeeep first time i sprayed mine is started raining, then the newspaper i had masked off flapped over and messed it all up :( so i ended up taking the buggers off and spraying them in the bassment instead.

They are a bit of a pain. The window ones slide off and have a number of clips. This paint stuff is really sticky so make sure you wait about an hour between coats or it will never dry.

If you paint them in situ the paint may stick to the paintwork when removing the masking tape, this happened to me, the plastic spray stretched as i removed the tape and it went everywhere. So I took my time and removed them altogether.

If the original seal stuff has split or cracked then your going to need to remove all the crap, so you may aswell take them off. Ypou just wont get a good finish if the old hasnt been removed. God knows how you will remove that stuff in situ.

Good luck

SMW1's link above descibes how to 'remove all the crap' in some detail (in situ). I'll have a look and see if I can get them off first though, it does sound alot simpler. I'm a bit warey removing trim though as I usually manage to bend it or something pulling it off.

Oh ive seen that, well its your choice looks like a alot of work doing it that way. Only took me a couple hours. The window trims will come out easy too. If you damage them i wont be held responsible tho ;) lol

Jimmy, are you saying you bought Plastidip or the stuff in Stu's thread, i know how to remove the trim on windscreens and the smaller ones, but how do the targa ones come off, are they the same small white plastic clips too???

hold on hold on...

My windscreen trims somebody has scrapped most of the original coating off already but the targa trims are still black.

Do you need to use primer on the chrome?
