ok murt came round mine to show me how to work my conzult and we did a power balance test...

A.what exactly does this measure?

B.What does it mean by drop in rpm?

C.Certain cylinders highlited red and others green?

D.When tested a second time the results were different, how accurate can this be?

Any help much appreciated:confused:

Right the test is supposed to test / estimate the balance difference between cylinders, or another way to think of it, is the test measures the amount each individual cylinder is contributing to the running of the engine.

As the test is done the drop in revs is noted when each cylinder is switched off, if there is a noticeable drop the colour indicator for that cylinder is green and if it is less of a drop its goes red.

But and this is a big but, the power test cannot be done effectively unless the engine is running at it`s best, if not then inconsistent results will occur, as you have noticed by repeating the test your getting different results, check your tick over speed when in the power test if less than 800rpm it will give an uncertain test and possible misleading result.

ConZult and other similar diagnostic systems are excellent tools provided the user knows how to interpret the information and know what to do with it, unfortunately not many do.

To be honest it was my first time using consult so im not use to that software, we waited for the engine to warm up as the test would not work. First time it was 2 green the rest red and the second time it was 3 green and the rest red.

AS Jeff has stated, you need to ensure that the engine is running at its best potential before carrying out this test. This means that your plugs are in top condition, all coil packs working OK, and all electrical connections to coil packs, injectors, CAS and PTU are good. Also timing is set right. The results then can be translated into engine mechanical condition, and if still reading red on some cylinders should be followed up by a compression test.

When i took mine to Brian's (Znut) iirc all of mine were green :)

yep it's basicly like a electronic compression test i suppose right ?

ย

and mine where all green also!

ย

as said a follow up with actual compression test should shed some light :D:D
