I've been thinking about buying a Z for about a year and have finally plucked up the courage. I've been following closely the messages on the forums and they've been invaluable.
Now its my turn to ask you all for help...
Have found a Z that suits my spec perfectly - have put a deposit down but there are a couple of things that maybe some of you could help with? I would be really grateful of any feedback. Have gotta make a decision before Friday! (gulp) OK, here goes...
The car is a 92 (K) UK manual 2+2. Bodywork seems sweet apart from a small ding/crease in the rear of the car just above the numberplate. The spoiler is slightly blistered (a common problem I know) but I also notice that if you look between the front edge of the spoiler and the bootlid there is a line of white/cream. It looks to me as though someone has had the spolier off and tried to respray it but not finished it perfectly. It's not that noticeable I was really looking at it hard to discover it.
Also, the Twin Turbo sticker is missing off the back, and being a UK car i assume this is not normal for it to be missing? Or can they be peeled off? Is it easy to get a replacement sticker? Is all of this maybe a sign that its had a rear end shunt?
Another thing with the bodywork is that the 'piping/seals' (dunno the technical term) that run up the the roof are quite well worn, down to the metal in a lot of places. Is this common wear on a 10 year old car? Can these be touched up?
The window seals are also faded - again, can these be touched up at all?
Apart from these the overall bodywork is good. The interior is immaculate - I couldn't believe the leather wasn't badly scuffed or anything.
I did notice a slight eggy smell coming from the car sometimes. The cars done 90k miles with no work on the Turbos. Is this a sign of impending doom? OR could it be something like the catalytic convertors? if there are any?
There's also a very small stone chip in the windscreen it looks repairable to me - but how much are windscreens out of interest? shall i get cover on my insurance?
I'm gonna do an HPI check just to make sure its not a ringer or anything, but its got a FSH and the previous owner had it 4 years. The guy whose now got it has only had it 5 weeks but says hes moving out of the country and so has to sell it.can i do any more checks?
OK thats about it I think, as i say any help you could give I would be really grateful for.
To be honest I've fallen in love with the car - **ck me is it quick I've never driven anything like it, its like being on a flying carpet!!
