Hi my car occassionally vibrates when I put my foot down, why?

Featured Replies

If it is only occasionally, I would say it is a misfire, if it does it all the the time then it is either propshaft or wheel balance, the latter usually being the culprit.

More info needed.

Could be Wheelhop during loss of traction due to worn rear shocks and bushes - This would be from the rear of the car and mostly from standstill

Could be propshaft centre and/or rear gearbox mount - Would be a vibration through base of car, and usually happens at around 55mph too.

Could be Engine missfire - Rough running from Engine, from PTU, Loom, connector fault.

can u feel it though the seat, or the steering wheel ?

IS there a problem if the gear stick produces vibration?

Could be engine mount failure/ gearbox mount failure diff bushings prop donut loads of crap ahh dont ya just love the z32

No its not through the steering i can feel the vibrating through the seat, usually happens after started from cold not really at higher speeds though, i guess its one of those trial and error jobs, my guess is the thing i do last will be the main problem!

Sounds like could be the propshaft centre or rear gearbox mount, This would result in a vibration felt through the car/seat and usually happens at around 45/55mph

although i think im recapping here, lol (as legrath said the same)

but as u said it can be trial and error!

Check your misses hasnt left one of her toys under the seat.....

Like ck300z said, the gb mount is pretty much directly under the seat and the exhaust may be touching somwhere as you pull off and the engine flexes.

Its the rear gear box mount. As the car sits doing nothing the mount sags and when you start driving the car you get a vibration that dissapears as you increase the speed because as you drive, the sagging goes away as the engine and gearbox try to align everything. Leave the car standing again - normally a working day will do - and you get a repeat of the whole process.

You can replace the mount or you can pack it with spacers - 5mm will do it. It's best to replace it as the spacer fix hardens everything up and you get a different (still annoying) feel through the seat.

Of note, make sure that your exhaust hangers are also of the correct size and spec as the exhaust hangs on the rear gerabox mount and if they are also 'sagging' then you'll have too much downward weight on the mount which will in turn missalign the prop and give you the vibes you are talking about.

Good luck

ta lads i'll get the rear gear box mount changed and see if it makes a difference, the vibrating is occurring a lot more now and for a prolonged period as well so need to get it sorted asap!
