I took the 300 out the weekend for a blast up the ring road and on my way home i noticed the temp gauge creeping up and the fan didnt come in at all.So by the time i pulled over to let her cool down the temp had reached 110 and i started to get a bit worried! How much damage if any do you think i could have done?

Yup!

You will have cooked the engine at that temp. Did you lose much water? Could be head gasket.

Should run 80-85c, but may get upto 90 when booting it, mine has only ever been that high after a couple of runs down the pod, but came staright down again. 110c is way to high, where are you getting the reading from?

Aftermarket gauge taken from the top radiator hose. how do i test if ive done a head gasket in?

I dont think the car has lost any water just the fan didnt kick in?

Change your oil as a precaution as well.... even if the Head Gasket is ok don't risk the engine further

Yes. The composition of oil depends on the temperature it is. I don't know enough about oil to say with 100% certainty but at a certain (high) temperature the oil will change composition and start to burn and degrade. You don't want that sloshing around the enginee. Again, I'm not sure whether 110C is high enough for that.

 

As for any potential damage - it is possible but if the high temps were only for a short period of time the damage may be limited. I'd keep a close eye on coolant levels and also whether any bubble are appearing in the coolant. That's an early indication that the head gasket is gone.

110 is deffo head gasket blowing temperature. Id be worried that your fan isnt kicking in.

 

You sure you not an air lock? whats the colour of the coolant like? is your heater still blowing hot air?

recomended oil is 10w/40 but as advised some use semi some use full at varying ratio's oil man has posted some real good posts on the subject lately!

To check your fan, start the car up and then pull off the left hand connector in the water pipe that ii in the middle if the front of the engine (there are 2 connectors together) when pulled off the fan should kick in.
