thank you for that nick,

fair play so i am not very good at puncuation and the layout of what im trying to say but nobody is perfect.

so anyway like i keep saying i got the car about 4 days ago and it is my first 300zx and for that matter my first car that has turbos no my knowlege is very limited.

hence the reason i am hear as you lot have a vast amount of knowlede of these cars.

ok so my problem is my clutch slips under a high load but there is a little blue thing (like a tap) at the front of my engine that i was told is a blow off valve but from what you have said i am incorrect. but anyway i closed the valve off so it didnt release any air thats when the clutch started slipping.

then when i opened it about half way there is no problems with the clutch even reving upto 6000rpm.

and thats my problem as i dont no weather its

the clutch that needs replacing or

if there is air in the clutch fluid

the car came with a bill for a new clutch about 10 months ago

hope you can understand what i mean now thanx for your time and i hope this passes your high standard nick :D

thanx to the people that have helped me getting to no how the site works

also my car is running very rich causing black smoke under load is that normal or do i need to get it tuned up

Well you have more than one issue going on there, but there is no getting away from that slipping clutch, over adjusted clutch pedal height, odd air lcoks in the hydrolics or oil on the plate can cause it but usually its just the clutch, maybe it was not the best of units when it was fitted? who knows, does the receipt give any details? Oh and the black smoke is a sure sign of a boost leak and a good one at that. You need to seperate the issues and sort them out one by one, but sadly I would hazard a gues that each one will have an impact on the next ( ie solving the boost leak will put more pressure on the clutch ) so maybe you need to get a garage to look at it.

The little blue tap sounds like a manual boost control valve. When you tightend it down you have increced the boost pressure and so the hp, which in turn has made the clutch slip because it wont take the excess power.

What do you think jeff?

Allan

Allen I think your right, not many dump valves have easy to access blue taps:D

Word of caution 300zxtt400bhp watch how high you turn that tap, as Allen said it is more likely your turning the boost up.

If the clutch was slipping it needs replacing, i think its just coincidence that you've adjusted the manual boost controller and it seems fine. Sometimes a clutch will work fine until there's a bit of heat build up after 10-20 minutes driving but if it has been slipping it needs replacing.

Just found this in another thread:

hi there i have just got a 300zx when i got it the boost was turned off via the bov so i turned it fully on with doing that as soon as i got up2 4500rpm the clutch would just slip so i turned it down so its about half way and its fine and revs well up2 6000 ive been told its coz of air in the clutch and it needs bleeding please help regards matt

Matt that is a boost control valve and as Jeff has just pointed out to you if you start turning that valve up you will be buying a new engine or new Turbos.

It may be the case that that is the reason you have soot or burnt oil on the rear of the car. You may be forcing the oil past the rear turbo seals and burning oil. you need to turn the boost level down to below 9psi to start with and see how things are. Also you need to find out what supporting mods are fitted for bigger boost pressure. If you blow your engine Im looking for a spare engine for a forged rebuild ;)

hi jeff thanx for the reply to my questions

as for the boost leak how do i fix that sorry if i sound stupid but its better to be safe then sorry :o

also how do i add pictures to my posts ?

To effectively sort a boost leak you need to borrow or make a bung for where the air flow meter fits, it will need to have a tyre type valve fitted so you can use a compressor to fill the intake with air and listen for the leaks.
