Exhaust gas sensors?

Hey all, I bought my lovely Zed in a bad way, some fool tried to do stuff to it and ballsed it up. I got it with only the exhaust down pipes and back boxes, no mid-section, but it came with a de-cat pipe. But, there are two cables under the middle of the car that have been cut, that I think were gas sensors going to the cat? And when I drive it and give her a few revs, a warning light flickers on and off on the dash, the red light looks like a cat with 3 heat wave lines coming from the top of it, what does this light mean? It could be possible that the cables are shorting out, as they have been cut very sloppily, I'll sort that tomorrow. Are these essential things that need to be replaced? Any suggestions peeps???

Also, slightly digressing, (it's an auto) but what exactly does the power button do? And the hold button? I can't really find out myself, still need to run her in as I've just done a full re-build, so can't give it any beans :-(

Thanks alot ya'll...........

They are cat-overheat sensors. I wouldn't worry about them, they are not essential for safe running of the car. A lot of Zs have had them removed/disconnected. Just tidy up the wiring and remove the bulb. It's the 02 sensors that need to be in full working condition and those can be checked on ConZult.

Powerbutton holds the revs longer afaik, but I don't have an auto, so not entirely eure.

hold button removes first gear, and starts in second iirc

and power just holds the revs longer

and as said above those sensors arn't essential, my right one has been cut too but it runs fine
