Exhaust fumes - Gas gas quick boys

Had a search through the topics and there is a lot of mention of leaking fuel lines or the O2 sensor but my problem seems to be straight suction of exhaust fumes in from the back when the window is down.

Strangely (or possibly not) this seems to have started up after I had a spot of how's-your-father with a tree and had to have some panel beating done to the right rear above the wheel. Also installed a new aerial and right rear light cluster.

Are the exhaust fumes coming in through (a) the seal between the hatch and the body, (b) the light cluster, © the hole where the aerial exits (I see there is no o-ring there), (d) all of the above or (e) somewhere else?

Is there a way I can find out? I am thinking of a coloured smoke type of setup.

Thanks for any ideas. I suppose I should start by using black silicone on the light and an o-ring for the aerial. How can I improve the seal between the body and hatch?

Cheers.

when you drive any car there is a low pressure spot at the back directly behind the rear bumper and iff you dont have a good rubber seal on the boot hatch it will be drawn into the cabin space created by suction as the cabin air exits via the front windows

Check out the boot vents which have rubber flaps/ shutters on, if this have become detached or just jammed open you could suffer the problem you have. There are two vents located at each side, remove the carpet, floor hardboards and side panels to reveal them.

Hi Jeff

Do the boot vents pass through the outside bodywork? Where exactly are they? In the back or in the sides?

Cheers.

hmm, im getting exactly the same thing, although this did start when i removed the interior boot panels and replaced them, anyone got any pics of said vents

Well I took the middle and right rear panels off and all I see is the metal outer body work and aerial installation. No boot vents that I can make out. Am I missing something between the body metal and the panels?

There is an insert in the side panel which has some slots. Is that the vent? IF so, should it have a rubber shutter over it?
