Can anyone recommend a good CCTV camera for home use? Needs to have good night time capability.

My parents have had there windows shot at 4 times in the last month (smashed each time). They were shot at again today, we have had a feeling its the idiot who lives across the back from them but had no proof but when you line up both points of impact in the double glazing its coming directly from this feckers bedroom, he must be bored due to being tagged and confined to the house. What really pisses me off is that the police have been phoned twice today and all they have said is "we're busy so can't say if someone will be out today".

Any help as regards the CCTV would be great, i've looked at the ones on ebay but would prefer if someone could recommend a good one.

Fecking ell sounds like a war zone where you live

Tell then you have a gun and you are going to shot back, thye will be round in a flash!!!

Then do the old line,

Police: "thought you had a gun"

You: "thought you were busy"

I think its an air rifle, but the fact its passed throught 2 panes of double glazing would suggest its quite powerful.

The police arrived and had no idea why they were there, they had no idea this was the fourth time it had happened and then get this they said to my mum "what do you want us to do".:headvswal

My dad was in the house at the time but is deaf and refuses to wear his hearing aid. I know you can get seeing eye dogs but can you get hearing ear dogs too lol.

these people are scum and I always try and be on the Polices side but they should be ashamed of themselves for saying stuff like that :(

i have one of these on my house, they work good in the day time and are ok at night upto a distance, the problem with them is they dont last very long, the infrared bulbs that allow you to see at night start to wear out after about a year (ish), as long as you dont mind replacing either the bulbs every year or the actual camera then your laughing. i guess it depends on how far away the guys bedroom is too, get a decent pic in the day upto about 15/20 meters, at night, i would say more like 5/7 metres.

It would probably be ok, the last few times its been done it was during the day but would like a good IR camera just to be on the safe side. My parents have lived there 39 years without any bother until this.

set up a dvd cam on his bedroom window and put it on full zoom but not from that room incase he has sights and sees it and leave it running full time untill he does it again...the sick fvker:mad:

Think I'd camp out in the room with my own Mr Bang pointed at his window and wait for the fecker to take aim and remove one of his eyes and hopefuly his brain.

putting the camera up may be enough anyway, usually when somebody knows they are being filmed, especially if he's on tag, will not want to do owt that may mean he has to keep it on longer or poss go back inside.

Could someone do you for invasion of privacy if you film them?

If its passed throught 2 panes bud its got to be over 12ft lbs, if so it is classed as a firearm.

Get the police to pull there finger outta there arse, really should be a firearms cop coming to see you.

Does sound like a good plan to take it higher with the Police. Just seems taking any action yourself might ebd up with you in trouble :(

Its 2 perfectly round holes about 8-10mm in diameter, but we couldn't find the pellet or whatever it was in the kitchen, the thing is my mun has a net curtain up so he wouldn't know if anyone was in there so if my mum had been at the sink it would have hit her.

if i was in your position i would just keep pestering the police untill they do something, before it is to late.

I can't see them doing much too be honest, my dad called them twice today and they said they were busy then when they did turn up they didn't know what they were there for then they asked what do you want us to do about it, it wasn't a cheeky what do you want us to do about it they were seriously asking my parents what should they do next, some people just don't have any common sense but you expect better from the police.

As regard the cameras, I have a 4 camera system with 24/7 digital recording protecting my house. spent loads of time trying (wasted loads of cash finding out) different types of cameras.

for good night use you will need minimum of 420 tv line cameras and must be CCD and not the cheaper CMOS cameras.

420 line or better CCD (1/4inch or preferably 1/3inch lense) will give good night viewing if backed up by street lighting or additional infra red floodlighting. you can get good quality cheap external cameras of ebay from China with infra red leds built in that work really well but it's better to use a non IR camera if you can find one and then mount a seperate IR floodlamp nearby otherwise you'll be forever cleaning spiders webs of the front of the cameras. :D

Thanks bud, thats very interesting. I thought these IR floodlamps had to be connected to the camera but i take it that by just installing one near the camera this aids visibility. I'll deffo look for CCD cameras now i know what to look for.:)

I'm going to get something sorted for my own house too as my cars have been vandalized a few times, doesn't help living directly down the road from all the local boozers.:wack:

Unfortunately - yes!

I believe, having spoken to the police in the past about this, that the person(s) being recorded could complain if you set up a fixed camera. However, camcorder footage would be looked at differently and could therefore be used in court. (CCTV footage couldn't, unless you had it registered and had the proper signage in place etc)

Maybe getting yourself a 2nd hand camcorder from eBay wouldn't be a bad idea anyway - could be cheap, what with gadget season just around the corner and it will probably have a good zoom you can put to good use.

I'd put it in the window on a tripod - recording to a PC all night and one day you will catch the bugger!

Apart from the cctv issue, if this twit is on tag, see if you can find out upto what time he is on curfew ie overnight, then if you see him out after this time let the police know and he will get nicked for breach of curfew.

Always more than one way to skin a cat.
