Almost like a rotary whooshy creaky noise. Not wheel bearing.

If I press on the brake pedal hard, it goes away. If I corner hard on a left turn it goes away.

I've had the car in the air. Wheel spins very freely, no sounds, wheels / spacers are on tight. No other sign of wear,

I've had a very light version of this noise for some time which I could never trace, it went away for a while, but has come back again now and louder. The faster I go though, the less the noise can be heard, ie road noise cancels it out. There's no vibration through the steering either.

I don't recall as it only started doing it today. If the weather's ok tomorrow, I'll take it out again and check.

if its all the time its prob a stone as said above, if its when the brakes warm up you can join my club 'Irritating noises from the warm wheel club Est.2008'

I think you need to remember that brake pads are always in contact with the disk, they are self adjusting. This means that overnight they may adjust to have more contact with the disk, once you brake, the clearance is adjusted and thus any contact may be illiminated. New pads may be more reactive to this than old worn pads. The only other thing that may cause this is worn wheel bearings, which once you brake, the pads wear to the suit the the disks. Either way Si, I would not be too concerned about it. The bearings may just need to be tightened a bit as opposed to being replaced.

Well, I put some larger spacers on the front last week so I now have +20 effective. Torqued them all up, but the car in the garage. Would have checked them after a few weeks and retightened. Hadn't done any mileage on it, but drove it into Bristol, all of about 10 miles when it started making the noise. Jacked the car up, wheels were on solid.

Drove it home, put it in the garage. Got it out the garage and it wasn't making the noise. Drove it round the block a few times and it started again.

Bloody wheel nuts had worked their way loose in under 10 miles!!!!! Even though the wheel was on tightly, they must have slackened very slightly giving the noise. I always check these, but they'd slackened off even before I'd had chance to go round re-tightening them! LOL

Now these are expensive spacers that you bolt to the hub, so it wasn't any fault of those. My own wheel nuts had just worked their way loose very quickly on one side.

maybe worth investing in some new nuts bud, i had a prob where the front nuts kept coming loose no matter how tight they were, got new nuts with my rota's and they have been fine ever since
