Hi guys i posted a thread about improven my cams, due to the fack that one of mines is on its way out, looking at some of the prices, and by a comment being made it would not be coast effictint to go for a high cam kit,so wot i need to ask is,is there some where that i could get standerd cams at a good price,or is there someone breaking a engine were i could possible buy the cams of them, also as my car is a 1992 n/a import would this make it much harder to get the parts that i need, plus this may sound daft but is a 3liter v6 a twin cam or not, would it b all wright to just replace the cam thats on its way out or to replace the lot.obviously im trying to keep the coast down to a minimum, once again any help will be greatfull.

Hi there i had one of my mates have a look, the symptoms are, started to hear a tapping noise as i accelerate, and it has started to get louder, its like metal tapping against each other, when you lift the bonet and slowly increase the revs you can hear the noise coming from the top of the engine just on the left side of the oil cap,i have done a full oil change and put cam solution yesterday, but has made no difrence.im not that clued up on engines so im just going by wot im being told, and wot i can hear myself.

Could be VTC springs or seized lifter. I've not heard of many Zs shitting out their cam shafts. Might be worth getting a second opinion.

It will be worn Hydraulic lifters or injectors clicking.[/quote

I agree,Nissan cams are very tough, ive never seen a lobe gone yet.

It's a quad cam car mate :-) I agree, i'd say it was a hydraulic lifter, worn or seized, maybe no oil in it, so will be very noisy, unless it could be one of the journals on one of the cams?

Mine went on my black 300. Same sympthoms as this lad is describing. But for sure its rare as hell!

By that I dont mean your cams ARE on the way out, just it is a possability

The usual way a cam fails is when one of the oil feed holes get blocked and it then siezes. There are no bearings fitted to camshafts on Zeds so this would wreck the head as well. I would be tempted to change your oil and put some of that Halfrauds stuff in that unsiezes / cleans gummed up lifters. By what is written on here it seems to work.
