First:

- Get a engine rebuil kit from CZP or Z1 motorsport (about $1800)

- New valve lifters ($150)

- Intake and exhaust valves ($384)

- valve stem seal ($50)

- pcv kit

That would cover the basic i think... might have left something out

Then i would go for:

- Big brake kit from Z1

- Turbos of your choosing. (would atleast go for GT600R from Z1 when aiming for 500BHP)

- New type yellow 555 injector (615cc)

- 300 degree fuel rail if needed

- New intercooler

- DP and TP and catback

And maybe doolz, chip of course or a stand alone system, manifolds.

All that might get you close to 500bhp...

Rubbish! If you want 500bhp, money no object go and get yourself a Gallardo. Much more fun than a 300 will every be and much more reliable at that kind of bhp as well. If you want a 500bhp GT then buy a BMW M6.

Sorry for the sarcastic post but trying to get a Z up to 500bhp reliably will cost so much money you'll never see it back. Remember, these cars are all nearly 17 years old. If you put say £12k worth of parts and labour into it and three weeks down the road some chav rear-ends the car it'll be written off. Most you'll get from the insurance is market value (which currently hovers around £1.8k ~£2.8k for a decent Z) or agreed value if you bother to go down that route.

I'll get my coat now ...

Some good points if money was no object...I'd have myself a Veyron lol

but to play devils advocate - You'd be foolish not to get agreed value insurance and it would'nt cost anything like as much as a Gollardo....and if you factor in the cost of depreciation on those newer cars....

Honestly I'd say your 100% right. Z's are great cars for cheapo good fun and power. If you have any realy money then dont bother, buy something MUCH better and more reliable.

mines reliable, ive never broken down, stood at the side of the road like i have with many other cars. o.k. parts have failed but, only due to being inferior to the set up and have been easly replaced with upgraded items.

i wouldnt go out and spend 30k on a new up to date super car, purely for the fact you wont get the rawness that you experiance with these cars. so i say, throw every thing you have at your zed and watch your world crumble around you with the largest grin you will ever have on your face!!

good luck buddy, you WILL need it;)

So you HAVE broken down then lol

Each to their own and I love the Z32, but I wish people would stop treating it like somethign its not. A supercar :nelson:

But supercars are unreliable ;)

the money we have spent on these cars inconparison, id like someone to tell me if there is anything else out there this old and cost this fast and goodlooking im sorry my car is my supercar. LONG LIVE THE ZED

Agree with you 100%, as I said "great cars for cheapo good fun and power" :duffer:

Mk iii supra, is cheaper & easier to get to 500bhp. on the looks front though you either love it or hate it

MK3 Supra might be easier to get to 500bhp with a MK4 engine in it....

As for the 500bhp vs reliability vs cost, I think that a shade under 500 is achievable, reliably without costing the earth. 450bhp, with forget internals, better turbos and injectors and you're still not going to be able to get much that's anything as faster.

Plus there's the exclusivity value of the Z. It's something different. I've been in monster Z32s in the US and they are amazing if built correctly. Yes, they cost, but nominate a more realistic power figure and do it correctly and I don't see a problem with reliability and money.

...also, let's face it, the reliability issue tends to be as a result of ex-knobs owning it. Throwing the boost right up and doing nothing else to the rest of the car, spending nothing on maintenance and over-estimating BHP gains. We've all seen it. It's half the reason the arse fell out of the Z32 market.

PS, I'd not spend loads of money on a mega build, a little bit of extra boost and some better fueling is fine for me.

I agree. The Zed ticks alot of boxes that many cars cant. Its a proper 2+2 with room in the back for a real person. Its cheap to buy and for the money to get it to 450hp ish there is not much else you can buy that is as good looking and powerful. IMHO I sold my 911 cos it was too dull and too expensive to maintain for 28k. My Zed has cost me about 15 so far and it should wee all over the performance of the porker and is very spacious and the roof comes off! You could spend the money on a TVR also but its made of plastic so if you stack it pray you hit something soft! The zed is a bargain as far as Im concerned. Although Danny does have a point, you could always buy and M5 for 8 or 9k but where s the fun in that?

audi s4, two ko4 tubs, bigger injestors, boost upgrade chip and better fuel pump, 420bhp and it will prob be quicker then a zed and a lot more realiable lol

i would stick with a zed because a supra is ugly and the bmw is not much better and german parts are just as expensive as jap parts:D

Yeh but it will have cost more and be duller to drive ;)
