hi i have done a diagnostic check on my autobox and it says throttle sensor is knackered but after speaking to zcentre they have assured me that this wont be the problem,it is struggling to change gear while driving slowly and the power & hold lights both come on when in hold mode,is there a way to test my gearbox?is there anywhere that i can take it to be tested in the north west?it is apparently a race ready box.sorry for long post. any advice please?:cry:

The throttle sensor if set incorrectly or faulty will have an effect on the gearchange, the auto box ecu uses it for reference along with the internal revolution sensor, the speedo signal and the engine ecu to determine when and how to change gear ( up or down )

as to whether it is causing the exact fault you have is unknown, generally tps errors cause delayed 2nd gear engagement and harsh changes.

 

The issue your having with the power and hold lights is odd and could be an ecu fault, but more likely a loom problem.

 

You need to do some checking to eliminate what you do know like the tps and auto box ecu to determine if the fault is outside ( hopefully ) or inside the gearbox, swap the tps and see if you can borrow an ecu as a starter.

thanks jeff that does sound about right it is struggling to go in 2nd gear i have ordered a new tps should be here end of the week (touchwood) thanks for the advice, could resetting the ecu do me any favours and if so can i reset it just by disconnecting my battery? thanks terry

Resetting the ecu by disconnecting the battery can help with some issues and it will do no harm to do it anyway, however a faulty tps needs replacing as no amount of resetting will fix a hardware problem. When you fit the new one positioning it correctly is possible with a multimeter but to be honest a more acurate and quicker way is to get it done on a ConZult or similar system.

Completely off subject..... but recently i had my thottle sensor off and put it back on. But i did notice the small flanges on the side of the sensor for the mounting screws are elongated, how much of an effect does the position of the sensor have on the auto box and fueling? Is there a default position for it?

that is a good question i am supposed to be getting my new tps tomorrow i was going to just screw it straight in as it was can i do this or not?will i need to do anything else? thanks. i havent disconnected my battery yet, every time i try my fookin alarm scares the crap out of me lol, know anything about clifford alarms and how to quieten them a bit?lol

I wrapped cling film around my alarm horn as a temp measure, made things more bearable ;)
