Has anyone got "flash photo proof" number plates from www.camera-shy.co.uk. Are they any good - like do the buggers work? They are offering a moneyback gtee if they don't.

I don't think they work...as the photos can be digitally enhanced to find your number....cheaper to just hang an old CD in the back window, so that the flash from that obscures the picture...Allegedly!

or alternativly you can drive at the speed limit, lol

There is NO way of getting 'round speed cameras! It has been tested again and again but always comes up with the same results! Will they refund your driving license with the three points incurred as well??? ;) It's a pretty easy guarantee to make.

When a photo is difficult to make out they simply make a negative of the image - and hey presto - it's readable.

Best advice is don't speed where you know there's cameras! There is a new device coming out that uses GPS to know where your car is and also has a database of camera locations - from these it warns you if you are approaching a camera. Its better than a radar detector for hunting down cameras.

Andy,

I think the device you are talking about is this one :

Morpheous Geodesy - www.morpheous.co.uk

Pretty pricey though £380 and after a year £30 annually to receive the updates.

When you get out of the car you stick it in a base unit which charges it and phones the company to download new speed camera locations. You also get £50 if you find a new camera not on the database. (I guess that covers your fine - maybe!!)

Camera shy claim their plates won't show up on a negative image either. But like y'all I remain very sceptical. Not that I speed too much, but it's a little extra insurance, and I need to buy some plates anyhow.

The Morpheous Geodesy doen't pick up mobile cameras, a radar detector does.

To be honest you'd have to have a detector AND the Morpheous device. Otherwise the only way you'll ever get your £50 is if you've been flashed and fined.

Unless of course you drive slow enough to actually be able to spot cameras!

Agreed - still, I think that cameras are just a way of generating extra revenue!!! (Oh here we go - another controversial one!!!) :)

I used to have a Uniden radar detector but it was shit. Traded it in against a new Bell unit and it's excellent. Gives me enough warning on Gatsos and has picked out 3 laser toting coppers so far. I'm thinking of getting a Geodesy too when I can afford it. The new digital SPECS system is not detectable and measures your speed between 2 points but the Geodesy unit knows where they are. The Geodesy will soon have a Sat Nav addon and a PC interface so you can edit your own camera/hot-spot locations.

I can recommend a company called Networx Automotive in Lanarkshire.

Send an e-mail to networx.ltd@dial.pipex.com and request a copy of their "Radar Update" newsletter. It's got everything available for evading cameras including the Geodesy and they will do trade ins on older equipment. It's full of usefull info on police tactics, legal cases and how all the systems work. Highly Recommended and delivered free to your door every few months.

Ive got shy number plates, due to the fact my car is registered in the Isle of Man. The police cant trace it when they do a PNC check. Cheaper than any detection gizmo
