Hi,

I have a 1992 NA and am planning to do a lot of repairs and upgrades in the next three months. Instead of posting serveral messages I will just ask several questions in this one.

1. Does anyone know where a AC compressor is for sale in the UK?

2. Are there any mechanics who work on Z's around Cambridge?

3. Is there any body shop you would recommend for installing a Wings West body kit? If you are interested I know where to get the whole kit for £550 including shipping.

4. My speedometer only goes to 110 MPH, how can I fix this.

5. My car beeps over 68MPH? How do I fix this?

6. Can you recommend anyone to look at a vibration problem between 45 to 65 MPh. I am looking for someone who can distinguish between drive shaft, tension rods and normal wheel balance / alinment problems.

7. What is the best alarm system?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Bruce,

I will Attempt to answer some of your ?'s

1. See thread below about missing AC button, some good used part dealers in there.

2. Probably not there are very few in the entire country. DIY is the way to go for bolt on / off stuff, SE Nissan in Maldon Essex are your next best bet for the complex stuff, TDI are also not too far i away i think.

3. Get in touch with Luke at the Z center, Talk to Steve E for feedback on the work and check out his Car in the Rides Sect, Very Zweet IMO.

4.Luke, again can sort ya out with a Recal Kit.

5. Not sure, Look for the Beeper behind the Dash area and whack it with a large Sturdy Hammer. I dont think Chips get rid of the beeping, Import owners will know, Simon Pass or Dave Hairs Probably will tell ya better than I.

6. Nissan Dealers might have a crak at this.

1st step is to take it to a tyre place and get the Tracking and Balancing sorted as you dont have HICAS it wont be a big deal or $$pensive. A quick test it too acclerate untill the Vibrations are at there worse. Put the car out of gear and if the vibrations get better or even go away then it is a Center Shaft Bearing Problem more then likely also listen for play on the bearings. Most garages will be able to test the run out of the shaft for you.

7. Best for the money is Clifford IMO, Bob can sell you an alarm for about 10 grand that will basically turn your car into Kit outta Knight Rider, give him a call, number is in the contacts Sect.

Hope that helps a bit, im sure some of the other guys can sort a few more things out for you.

Z ya

4. Either get a convertor fitted and an mph sticker to replace the kph one (which may well take care of 5 too), or fit a UK speedo.

5. I *think* that if you look on the back of the speedo you should see a black box with 3 wires going into it. Disconnect this and all your chimes will go away(including the warning that your lights are on.)

A better solution is to find the screw marked 110k on the back of the speedo and unscrew it. This should just get rid of the 110kph chime and leave the other chimes intact.

I read this recently on one of the Australian or New Zealand message boards, but haven't tried it myself.

Hi,

The number of people willing to work on these cars is beginning to increase. What you need to do is go to WHSmiths and buy a copy of Banzai. Its a Jap performance car mag - only been out for 6 months. It has plenty of ad's of 300ZX specialists for both mechanical and body work. Give some a call and make up your own mind. Also there are adds of companys that can provide speedo convertions. This will also derestrict and stop that annoying bell/beep sound. With alarm systems, you pay for what you get. Clifford are renowned for being one of the best but you have to pay for it! Check out exchangeandmart.com. They have a list of breakers that are currently breaking UK & Jap spec 300ZX's.

Good luck!

Andy.

Re the 110 kph chime, if you have the speedo converted to mph (plus a replacement face) then this will move the chime up to 110 mph. Since I had this I find that the wind noise is such that I can't hear the chime when it does come. Or, rather, I wouldn't hear it if I ever travelled at 110 mph. Which I obviously don't. Because that would be illegal.

Hi,

I was also looking into the WW kit. £550 sounds really good... and perhaps two of us could demand an even better deal.

I tried to get details of the new Poly Urethane kit from WW, but they now tell me it's should be next year?

Jez.

ps. When you get an Alarm, consider getting one compatable with a turbo timer or one with it already built in... think Clifford is.. My toad isn't.

If you drive through the vibration, like Nico says, go for full wheel alignment first. (Check your Tension rod bushing for leaks)

** Make sure the WW kit is NOT a copy. Just heard about a poor guy that bought on and it was a load of ****

The WW Body Kit is directly from WW. I like Jez's suggestion of buying in a group. If anyone else is interested please let me know. We should at least be able to save on shipping. I had forgotten about vat on the £550 price with vat it will be more like £625 but some of you may be able to claim that back.
