Can some one tell me please as to why when I look at the near side of a 300zx 2+2 Z32 the petrol filler flap is in front of the rear wheel and passenger door whilst others are 300zx's are to the rear of the rear wheel??:bow:

When it is infront it is a SWB / Short Wheel Base / 2+0 / 2 Seater and when it is behind it is a LWB / Long Wheel Base / 2+2 / 4 Seater ;)

HTH :)

Also i have moved your question into its own thread in the help and advice section :)

It's the other way round......

.....the 2+2 is the long wheel base model and the fuel filler is nearer the back of the car. If you see the filler flap between the dor and the rear wheel, you are looking at a short wheel base car -the 2 seater. This was available in Japan (often imported to the UK) and the USA.

As the SWB is slightly shorter therethe fuel tank is nearer the middle of the car; hence the fuel filler being closer to the front!

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thanks for moving it to correct place.

Thank you for your quick reply's i went and had a look at a 1996 zx300 z32 jap import today and it had the filler flap between the wheel and the passenger door. It also had two small seats behind the front seat no leg room though.

So I was not looking at a 2+2 then? but a SWB Z32. I take it then the seats in a 2+2 are quite large behind the front seats compared to what i was looking at.

Is there any advantage apart from more room to have one kind of car or the other then LWB or SWB as they both have the same power dont they? this one also had no turbo gauge intailed in the speedo clock. is this normal? I am OK to buy this type i was looking at??

Same power outputs but SWB is less weight (100kgish i think) you will notice seats in the back and you can fit people in there but only kid sized really :P They are like buckets so your bum goes down into the seat not like modern seats where you sit on top (If that makes sense)

No Turbo guage in the Speedo would mean its a Non Turbo model! If your wanting the twin turbo model then stay away but if you want the NA (non turbo) then your looking at a 300zx N/A SWB (2+0)

Hope this helps :)

It was also a 1996 model she was looking at mate, which as far as i know didn't have boost gauges in them.

Here are examples for you :) If it is a SWB then it does NOT have rear seats! If it is a LWB then it DOES have rear seats :)

LWB - Petrol flap to the rear of the wheel arch

SWB - Petrol flap between the wheel arch and the door.

There is no inbetween, what i have just said is fact ;) :)

Your post is confusing. If it has the flap between the wheel and passenger door then it was a SWB and has no rear seats, its a 2 seater only.

If the one you saw had rear seats then its a LWB and the flap would of been rearward of the back wheel.

ClarkMagpie --- I have almost agreed to take this one nr Stranraer As i know nothing about these type of cars i was only asking you good people that know as to what i was looking at model wise that is. This car is a pearl white coloured 300ZX twin turbo 1996 Jap import on a N plated reg, I think SWB to be cleared up when i see it again, as you have now got me wondering as to where the filler flap is. I thought it was in front of the rear nearside wheel arch when looking at it today, but the car has 2 very small seats in the rear but you all tell me this is not possible on a SWB one. Two glass panels on the roof. it has covered 60,000mls it belonged to some minister chap from Dumfries and then some chap from Stanraer who took it into Bennetts Garage Leswalt as a part exchange. The car is totally standard in every way, no bling standard exhausts and as original as you can get. Out of interest what do you have. model history etc.
