Hi, I am still suffering from some sort of vibration underneath and it is a case of illiminating thisngs as I go. I ince read that you can change the 2 piece prop shaft for a single. Has any one done that, and is it smoother?

No not yet, I would need to get a garage to do it, as I have no means of getting underneath. But if they are issues that give some vibration I will get them checked out.

You can swap to a 1 piece prop (I have, as have many others) but its done for performance reasons (Less drivetrain weight = Quicker acceleration & response, and less drivetrain power loss).

Technically a 2 piece would eliminate vibrations better than a one piece, but you should'nt have any vibrations with either.

Most likely cause is the Centre propshaft bearing failure. It will fail over time, with general wear and tear but it can also have its lifespan severly reduced by a worn Gearbox mount. The gearbox mount has a flawed design that allows it to sag overtime, putting the propshaft out of alignment and exurting extra stresses on the bearing.

A Nismo rear gearbox mount (improved design over stock mount) would set you back about £75 and the prop bearing is around £150.

A One piece prop can be had for around £250-£300, but its wise to replace the gearbox mount at same time.

Thanks for that, I will stick with the 2 piece for now. But where would I get the gearbox mounts and the centre bearing bit please.

Thank you

hi matey

i suffered bad vibes with my 300, and found it not to be "the most likely cause", centre bearing. it was the link between the 2 shafts (u.j.'s) that was worn over the years.

was quoted £187.50 for new joint and balance.

got my 1 piece shaft from Z1 motorsports, custom made for the same money + import duty (approx. £35). dont know if they still sell the custom 1 piece, have a look on the website.

Thanks Al, it all helps. my zed has over 121 K on the clock so I am not surprised that bits wear lol.

I will look at all the above and get it fixed now. Thanks for you help everyone.

I just replaced the stock propshaft on my NA with the Z1 single piece and nismo mount an the improvement over stock is well worth the money.
