Hi all,

I finally bought my first Zed last Saturday (I’ll post some pictures when I can get hold of a camera). The car is great, I can’t believe how fast it is (fasted car I’ve owned to date is a 1.8 mondeo!), but there are a few nigly (or maybe not so nigly) issues that I’m not happy about that I could do with some advice/opinions on. Before I start, I know I broke all the rules for going to see a car - I’d pretty much decided I was going to buy it before I saw it as it was a bit of a distance, but at the end of the day I’ve got it now and I’ll just have to do what needs doing to it (though it may have to be off the road while I save up).

1. I was told that the car was completely standard both mechanically and in terms of appearance (which to my eyes it is), however the boost level goes up to what must be about 12 or so PSI on the (stock) gauge. According to the buying guide a stock car should go to a max of 9 PSI. Is this something to worry about or is it just an inaccurate gauge?

2. According to the buying guide the Oil pressure gauge should show between 30-60 PSI during normal driving. Mine seems to sit at about 10-15 unless I really drive it hard in which case it goes up into the 30-60 range, but driving at a steady 60 mph it doesn’t budge above 15. However the car’s manual suggests that these figures are in the normal range (all be it towards the lower end). Is this something to be worried about?

3. I get a vibration through the seat when driving between 55 and 70 mph (irrespective of gear/engine revs), but not above or below? Is this likely to be play in the rear axle as the buyers guide mentions?

I’m hoping at some point to take it to Zed World and get them to do one of their ‘new owner’ checks, but in the mean time is it safe to drive or do I need to get these things checked ASAP?

Sorry this is rather long, and please don’t tell be I’ve bought a complete duffer, I might get upset:cry:.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Phill

If I were in your siuation I would take it now before you use it to be checked out. If you have already decided to use Jeff at Zedworld then tomorrow I would be ringing up to book it in.

Its a waste of time anyone on here guessing/speculating about the problems or their severity without having the car in front of them to examine.

But Im sure plenty of "experts" will be along soon to do just that..........

Low oil pressure is a known 'fault' on the stock pressure sender

Vibration WILL be worn prop centre bearing

But as stated above, get it looked at by an expert

And real world "low oil pressure " will kill the engine.

Vibration MAY be the centre bearing... it MAY be the front uj, the centre uj or the rear uj. Or all three/four. It MAY be the diff mount .

Best to get it checked by an expert:rolleyes:

Thanks guys, looks like I'll have to switch back to the punto:( for work, and get the Zed booked in.
