depends if your replacing it with a light weight pulley ??

you can tap it from the back with a hammer, but run the risk of chipping the edge

if your not keeping it, then it does,nt matter if you damage it

Pulley remover tools not very expensive. I think I paid about £12 for mine. There a PITA to use, but they do the job.

You could try tapping it off, but quite often the Crank Pulley is on very tight.

try to use a puller will save a lot time and as said they are not a lot of money

even if you go for a cheap one off ebay

I used the 6''

I still dont like the idea of changing the crank pulley on the vg engine .The standard pulley is a harmonic damper for the crank .And a light weight one can cause problems possible big end bearings .Nissan fitted this for a reason i know people will say its ok and had no problems but personaly id leave it well alone for a gain of a few hp.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonic_balancer

On a straight 4/6 yes, but on a V-engine its not really a concern. IMO, on the VG is for noise suppression rather than balance.

You can however purchase a lightweight pulley with Harmonic balancer.

Its not so much a HP gain but the throttle response and quicker revving thats the biggest benefit. Its very noticable.

Dean,

If it is any help, I had a set of lightened STOCK-sized crank pulleys mad up by a company who do a lot of work for various race teams. Their equipment is very impressive and the pulleys are all balanced to the highest level (I forgot exactly what the figure was but it was better than the Unorthodox pulleys). The advantage of using a lightened stock sized pulley is you can reuse your ancillary belts (unlike when fitting an underdrive crank pulley). I've got all the other pulleys in lightweight material as well if you're interested. Price wise you're looking at:

Lightened crank pulley (stock size): £125.00

Lightened pulley set (stock size crank, P/S, A/C, waterpump): £265.00

Ancillary belts (full set TT): £26.00

Ancillary belts (full set NA): £34.00

Our crank pulleys have a timing mark on them and has been fitted to about a dozen or so cars to date without any problems with installation or running.

Let me know if the above is of interest to you.

Regards,

Dan

Hi Taff,

It'll be £140 for the ancillary pulleys. I can get the anodised in any colour but will need to check on pricing as I haven't had that done before. If you're interested I can investigate for your.

Regards,

Dan
