Spin Doctor
To my knowledge the erg is a filter box to get rid of exhaust gases or unburnt petrol fumes that go threw a filter and some back to engine and some back to exhaust ,ok if thats right then ok but the first time i had smoke comming out my exhaust i was told to check out the pcv systems .ok it turns out it was my tubs but the point of this thread is are the pcv and the erg one of the same???????? ;)
Smithy
PCV is crankcase ventilation and nowt to do with the EGR Smithy
Funkysi
It's EGR. ;) The EGR (Exhaust gas return) is a valve that routes unburnt exhaust gases back into the plenum to be reburnt. PCV valves release vent crankcase pressure back into the inlet. The two are very different.
Yowser
No. The EGR system recirculates exhaust gases into the intake to lower combustion temperatures. This decreases noxious emissions by prohibiting the formation of some harmful gases. The PCV system recycles escaped gases from the crankcase back into the inlet manifold, reducing air pollution and preventing moisture build-up inside the engine which prolongs oil life. There is also the AIV system which introduces clean air into the exhaust at idle to aid the Catalystic convertors for reducing emissions. Funkysi
....the 'filter box' you describe is probably the carbon canister. They are small black cylindrical things full of granules that absorb unwanted fuel vapor.

CHEERS You can remove the Carbon Cannistor, I removed mine the other week. Follow the guide carefully to be sure you connect up the correct vacumn pipes and leave the correct ones venting. The PRVR Valve’s job is to prevent vapour lock in the fuel system during High fuel temperature situations and during warm starts. It recieves signals from the ECU to release excess vacumn in the fuel system which inturn increases fuel pressure. PRVR can also be removed, as its not needed in our climate. There is a guide on the same site as the Carbon canistor removal.

Funkysi
You don't really need to replace it. It's just dumping straight to atmosphere. You may just notice fuel smell. Do as Legrath has stated, remove.
