Hi all

On the way to work this morning the car started and drove off fine however when i pulled on to the main rd at end of street the fan belt gave out a very loud squeel ! but quickly stopped upon acceleration

As im not the best with cars mechanicly i thought get home ring nissan for a price and just get it changed!

I was advised would be 24.99+vat and would have to order after he said the price i asked out of interest how much seen as would have to go to dealer to collect they would charge to fit while there

my face dropped when they called me back and said it would 545.00 to fit

Can this be right or was i just talking to a complete bonehead who prob thought i wanted to change the cam belt or somthin !

any thoughts would be appreiciated:D

You need to find out which aux belt is loose and sliping may just want tighting up i think there are 3 aux belts .You dont have to get these from nissan most motorfactors sell them gates are a good brand .

How did they know which belt you required ? There are 3 belts - One for PAS, One for Alternator and One for Aircon.

Its more than likely that whichever belt is squeeling just needs tightening which is a 5min job.

They should'nt be charging more than an hours labour to replace the belt anyway.

Its safe to say that the Nissan dealer you spoke to did not know what he was talking, and its likely he quoted you the labour price to change the Cambelt, not an auxillery/fan belt.

i thought that was excessive on price:rofl: as above i think it's the alt belt but need to confirm 2 moz i dont have an adjustment tool so will check some threads for advice i thought even 24.99 was a bit much if it is the alt belt

Yeh, Motor factors like Halfords sell the belts for about £7

You'll need a 12mm and/or 14mm spanner or Ratchet & socket to adjust.

Handy bit of kit i use as they can squeak when tight as they are worn...Until you adjust try a squirt of this...Carpet tack can work too ;-0
