i don't think it is as when not pushing the car it changes fine i was thinking mabe fluid or the presure plate but don't know was just wondering if anyone has had similar problems

^^^^ definately syncro by the sounds of it.syncros will change fine if changing slow but as the shaft speed and gear inertia increases it will struggle to slow them down and cause the crunching noise your getting.

Replace the oil first, with something like Redine MT90, many have found it to it cure(mask) the problem for a long time.

Recon is very expensive, £1000+. Brand new box, with synco improvements is around £1200. 2nd hand about £500

Dont later boxes have improved syncros 96 on i think double syncros ring a bell no sure though.

Your thinking about the auto box which was greatly improved 96 onwards.

mt 90 demon tweeks sold in quart bottles think you need 3 bottles it ant cheap.

The manual has stronger syncro material (no idea what) in the later series 96+

Redline MT 90 will hide it and prolone the life of the box. It does make gear shifts very stiff and notchy for the first few miles until oil gets warm. but slick as snot once warmed up

I wonder if they would also fit in a S2 gearbox. Mine is beginning to snick slightly.
