Might be ordering a new car this time next year. Just wondering what's out there.

Gotta be something practical. The Z is my impractical partner.

I know it's a long way off, but trying also to think of anything semi-interesting that's coming onto the market.

I like the new Lancer (not evo). Very cheap and very highly spec'd. I hate SUVs, but also glanced at the Qashqai. Not really my thing, but a fully spec'd up one might be quite cool.

Nothing really on the Euro market that really excites me. There's a new Golf coming out at the end of the year 'yawn'. Focus...well, it's a Ford and whilst they are good, they don't really do anything for me. The Mondeo is too big really....but saying that, I like the new C5 from Citroen....I know, I know. But it looks pretty good. I can't stand ANYTHING from Peugeot, don't want a Vauxhall, had too many of those. The Astra is getting a bit long in the tooth and the new Insignia..well, again, probably too big really.

Don't like the Avensis, it's nice to drive, but is as old as the hills, new one is due, but not fussed by it. The new Accord is nice and so is the Mazda 6, which are two others I think fit the bill, yes, they're big, but they are styled nicely and look sleak. The Accord is just a facelifted version of the old car and TBH, although it's good, is quite pricey over its rivals.

There's a lot of nasty stuff that I'd rather shake a stick at like the Kias, Hyundais, Chryslers etc.

I know other stuff will be on the market in a year's time, but currently, I'm quite liking this (although I'm not the biggest fan of the interior!)

Anyway, just throwing a few ideas about if anyone has any further ones.

we have them as company cars and i gotta say, i love driving them.

Really comfy and a fair bit of torque from the diesel engine.

That is quite smart :) - Definately can't complain if it's your daily driver and you didn't have to pay for it! - Colour is stunning too!

Very nice but is the steering column set very low Si

thats because he's only 4ft 3"...ever noticed the blocks of wood on his zed pedals:yes:

Funny! 5ft11 actually. :p

:rofl::rofl: *****ckss 5 11..with ya mams high heels maybe.

btw stunning car that Simon, make the zed seem very dated point to point

I dunno, not driven the Z since September! The Z still feels pretty tight and positive though.

I drive the Z in a completely different frame of mine though. So any datedness doesn't really fuss me all that much. I wouldn't want it as a daily hack. It's so nice to jump back in it after the winter and use it when the weather is nice. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

yea so true mate...took mine to zedworld for a cambelt after being laid up since last year and drove it home last sat..smiled the whole way home and fell back in love again:biggrin: in all my driving years a car has never had such an impact on my wellbeing as this old girl does

Photos don't capture it very well. It's actually very nice. I was worried about it being bland from the photos, but it's really well laid out and very well built. There are a number of different finishes inside and without the glare, look good. Best stereo of any car I've had!

Looking forward to driving mine again! Probably get it taxed at the end of next month.

The Mother and Father in law have just purchased a brand new 3 series BMW, They hate it!! Before the BM they used to have a Passat and loved it to bits, they wished they had bought another instead of the BM!!!

Nice motor Si, great colour.

Cheers. :)

It's such a nice drive for what it is. Better than my old Leon and infinately better than the Mondeo I had before that.

Only seen a few R-line models about and none in biscay blue. Most I've seen are silver and grey. I filled up in Portsmouth before taking the ferry to France at the weekend and the guy in the petrol station commented on how nice it looked. Not bad considering it's just a Passat. :)

Only the titanium X ones look any good. Ford did a poor job of designing the wheels for the Mondeo. Other than the Titanium x, the rest look dowdy as hell, rubbish trim, ugly wheels. Hideously overpriced now as well.

Hi Si

I thought you might have changed your order for the new scirroco.... seen some really nive fully loaded ones of those on my travels

  • Author

Wanted something practical though Tony. I did look at the Scirocco and also the Mercedes CLC.

The new Scirocco is Really Really nice to drive. Brilliant drivers position

reminded me of my youth in the old Hot hatches of the 80/90's.:cool2:

Oh and the new 1 series Coupe is FOOKIN horrible

Nice car Si - good luck with it!

I tend to buy VWs as company cars for my staff; usually Passats or Golfs - and they do fare very well.

I have just bought a new Passat HiLine TDi 140ps for one of my salesmen and it's superbly finished; leather & cruise etc as standard!

I know what you mean about diesels though - not my bag either. I prefer the power delivery of a nice petrol motor!!

Richard:cool2:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
