If I bypass the pipes to the HICAS (so no pressurised fluid goes to the HICAS system) and short out the reservoir sensor (so it thinks the reservoir is empty and disables HICAS) will the HICAS wobble around?

Just wondering what the effect of no pressurised fluid in the unit will have, as I am not planning to put in a HICAS eliminator - just fed up with all the leaks from the rusted pipes.

Cheers,

Darren.

It will be fine as the gearing in the rear steering will hold it all tight assuming of course the hicas arms and outer bushes are not worn.

easy repair????, is the back end wobbling, if so you inner and outer balljoints are most likely fooked, just did mine and all is sorted now

No it's not wobbling (changed my ball joints a while ago too) - just leaking fluid all over the place. Last time I patched up the pipes that lead to the rear so fluid still going round the system, but easier to just bypass at the solenoid I reckon.

If it's the electric type you should be pretty safe. If it'ds the hydraulic type, the only thing keeping you on course will be the centering spring. I imagine with the right conditions it would be possible to get some sort of movement thats why they make the Hicas removal bars.

Ah. I was worried about that.

Still, springs are tough eh. I'll see how it goes - if I survive I'll let you know.

Cheers!

Look at page 52 in the ST section of the manual. You may be able to adjust the stroke stoppers right up so the thing doesnt move.
