I am doing the following and want to know 2 things. Firstly am i correct with the equipment i am going to use. And secondly EXACTLY what wires i will need to purchase.

I am going to be running, aftermarket 90watt RMS rear 6x4's in the original place, aftermarket original size fronts, not sure what wattage yet, but as high RMS as i can. 2x 12" Subs in the rear.

So what amps do i require, i am guessing i need a 4 channel amp for the 4 'original' speakers and a separate 2 channel amp for the subs, is this correct?

Also i need to know EXACTLY what wires i am going to need, and which side of the car to thread them down etc......

To put it simply i know what i want to do, but i have absolutly no knowledge of ICE installs, i've always just used what was already in a car.

Links will also be gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance peeps :D

Isaac.

Right i have yet another question for all you in the know..........

I am looking around for a new headunit, and as explained i need one that has all the connections ready for my set up! HOWEVER in the pictures it does not show the back of the headunit, so what words in the description am i looking out for?

It needs to have an equilizer, which it does say whether the headunit does or not, so no worries there, but what words am i looking for as to outputs ............?

Thanks,

Isaac :)

rca or pre outs I think there called

And how many do i need to look for bud? On the basis that i will be running a 2 channel amp for the 2 subs and a separate 4 channel amp for the 4 normal speakers.

Thanks.

my head unit has a front rca pre-out, rear rca pre-out and a sub pre-out. Lol I was editing when you posted recheck my post.

Excellent :D Thanks mate and thanks for the link also, looks like a good one, i will have a look around and use that as a benchmark i think.

Cheers :D :duffer:

you need front (left and right) and rear (left and right) rca line outputs (preamp)

for the subs there are 2 options,

1. a headunit with dedicated sub output (need to run an extra cable all the way back to the amp) the headunit decides what frequencies to send to the sub amp

2. split the rear signal so it feeds both the "rear amp" and the "sub amp" using ready made rca splitter cables. the sub amp then needs to have a setting to decide what frequencies to use (known as crossover or low pass filter or something similar)

Could i ask a favour Ian, can you go on http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk and find a headunit that matches my requirements and then i can use that as a basis to find others, unless you just ending up finding the perfect one for me, lol.

Would that be ok?

Thanks.

p.s. regarding the 2 options you mention, i want the most effective one, if i'm going to be running wires everywhere anyway, one more won't hurt, lol :D

well

of the 2 suggested by other people:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/kenw...3smuq7caifmf36

says:

"Pre-out 2 RCA "

so this has a pair of front outs (left and right)

and a pair of rear outs (left and right)

so does my "option 2"

and

"Preout Rear / Subwoofer Switchable"

which means if you have no rear speakers you can switch the rear outputs to be dedicated sub outputs (no use to you)

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpi...3smuq7caifmf36

says:

"3 RCA Pre-outs for connection of External Amplifiers (with subwoofer level control)"

which means you have a a pair of front outs (left and right)

and a pair of rear outs (left and right)

and a dedicated sub output

so this does my "option 1"
