HELP!! Car won't start.

Help, my 300zx won't start. Last night because I've been having overfuelling and cat overheating problems I pulled the connector blocks off the PTU to check for corrosion etc. They were that loose they practically came off in my hand!! I cleaned them and game them a squirt of WD40 and pushed them back on properly and now the bloody car won't start!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am already late for work. Cheers, Tim.

Welcome to the mad world of the ZED!

By trying to cure a problem - you have created another - DOH!

You are probably suffering from a brittle harness - and in moving it around broken either an actual wire or connector/connection.

Suggest that you turn the ignition on - go round to the engine bay and start wiggling your harness around - when you hear a clicking [relay] kind of noise thats your point of failure - if you can 'adjust' the harness and fasten it in it's good position - then that will get you going! But you do need to resolve the bigger issue! If it's going to go wrong - it will - and (probably whilst in the outside lane of the m3 - 3am on a Sunday night in the rain/snow!!!! Or in the middle of your local Hight Street in the rush hour) - ever tried pushing your ZED - noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Good luck - hope this helps.

If they were really loose does that mean the metal spring clips are missing?

If that's the case maybe they are just not held together well enough.

Is it dead or turning over but not firing up?

If dead, check it's in park/neutral if it's an auto and move it through the gears... it's easy to get in a flap and forget something stupid that's totally unrelated to the thing you messed with.

Done it myself!

once i was fitting a sub and amp to my couisns car and took the battery off to wire it up then came to the car ang every thing was dead i shat my self then rembered that i hadnt put the battery back on and yes i have tryed to push my z and i dont recomend it in all honesty it was easier to push my range rover (dont buy one too slow)

hope you get your car sorted m8 thats the problem in having all these sensors happed its just not making proper contact.

Simon

Just a quick note to all you guys who gave me advice, BIG thanks!!!!!!! It turned out to be corrosion on the lower contacts of the PTU just like you said. She's running like a dream now thanks to you lot. Cheers once again. Tim.
