Iam going to get a sti type r its the 2 door coupe, i used to own a p1 the same as the type r but the british version.

Only thing is the engine went and a new short block engine was fitted by subaru cardiff at a cost of £4000 a common fault with the p1 big end bearing falure.

I dont really know alot about the type r coupe are the engines better are there any common faults with the car can anyone give me some pointers before i pick it up.

Still keeping the z though no way iam i selling it theres no point, never get the money back and at the moment there going for penuts id rather let it rot than sell her.

Any help on type r would be great.

The impreza is only going to be a car to get me back and forth to work, at the moment they have gone right down in price and i loved my P1.

Dont get me wrong my zed is an on going project and i love it, doing all the jobs that need doing, even if it takes me a couple of years to get her at her best as she deserves, iam not bothered, but i need a motor just to do the usual ,back and for to work, picking the kids up from school ,shopping the usual crap but the zed aint ready yet is wish she was id drive her all day long if i could.

Hi mate... I've got a type RA... Now the Impreza is a good car but, and this is the same with most performance cars, it will have been driven hard! As it's a jap import you MUST make sure that the oil pump has been upgraded or at least changed especially if it's delimited this is because the Jap spec pump can't keep up with high revs for a long time, that's not a problem in Japan but the UK is a different matter.

Check service history, also start the car with the cap of the Expansion bottle (should be front left of engine) if there are any bubbles in the water, like when you open a bottle of coke, walk away, this is a sure sign of Head Gasket failure and a rebuild going to cost approx £3000-£4000.

The Subaru has a MAF like the 300 and as long as the standard filter is on it it'll be fine if it's got an after market filter on it it can suffer the same probs as the 300 and a replacement is much the same cost as a 300s.

Coil packs should have been replaced. Check under the battery for rust (mines got a hole through the inner wing there)

The gear box should be positive but not clunky... Check coming back down the box, you should be able to change from 4th-3rd at approx 50-60 if it crunches then the synchro is on it's way out... That's all I can think of for now... If I think of anything else I'll let you know!!!!!
