gettin a new ic soon n wondered ....front mount or replace side mounts...wats people views? alot of u seem to have gone bigger side mount route...wundered wats best ?

Featured Replies

Well the benefits of bigger sidemounts are more air to the rad and looks imo

But front mount tends to be more effective for lowering intake temps, it all depends on how much boost you want to run.

Well thats what Noble advised me when setting up my car, bigger sidemounts lowered my intake temps by about 10 degrees but could have done with going lower still.

With larger SMIC's you get the same benefit of Improved Inlet air cooling without having a big Intercooler restricting air to the Radiator and engine.

You could argue that there are'nt really any reported overheating issues with a FMIC though and they look pretty tasty.

Either way both are an improvement over the Stock intercoolers which suffer with high pressure loss and insufficient cooling with raised boost.

Ah, but Ed if my memory serves me correctly, your sidemounts are the earlier ebay versions which are only marginally larger than stock and by far the smallest available.

Yeah they are not as big as the godspeed ones but they are still a fair bit bigger than stock

Which seller were they from Leigh?

Cheers mate - not too bad a price. What are they like to fit, or haven't you got that far yet?

And I agree - it seems as though most people do replace the SMIC's. I've always been a bit wary of cutting off a bit of air flow to my rad. Maybe if you had an uprated rad, it wouldn't be an issue though.

Aint got that far yet mate, i'm not fitting them, i'm getting chris from z tech to fit them whilst building my engine, gotta be easyer to fit than fmic's as they are just bolt on, no extra piping etc.

Yeah just realised that when I was looking to see if that price included all the other bits and bobs... until I realised I didn't need any!

£60 postage on top though... ouch...

Did you get stung on the import duty?

If you make proper inlet ducting and proper exhaust ducting to and from your SMIC's they are more efficient than a FMIC's, because the air rushing over the exhaust ports will increase the air flow speeds through you SMIC. The air being pushed through the FMIC still has resistance from the engine and ancillary's even with the pull of the fan and as has been said will reduce engine cooling.

No, they sent it as a gift, all I paid was £30+ vat + £20 for parcel force to deliver to my door.

Sorry to ask a potentially stupid question, but what was the £30 + VAT for? Didn't think customs charged anything on gifts? (Not ordered from abroad before as you can probably tell)

So was it a total of £176 + £60 (postage) + £30 (?) + £20 (Parcel Force) + a bit of VAT? Cos that's £286 + VAT... and not quite as cheap as it first seemed ;)

How you doing mate have you ran out of Viagra yet?;)

cheeky git. i'm leaner and meaner than I used to be and and all loved up with a lovely lady from Portugal. Down to 2.5 Zeds and soon down to 1 and no Business in a few weeks, but i'm happier than I've ever been in my life matey. I maybe broke but I'll fix that in due time just need to get the monkey of my Ex off my financial case first. Whens the next North West/East meet. I'll come on up and have a few beers and catch up

You were lucky. Shipping as a gift is no longer sufficient. My brother got stung £95 the other day even though the item was fom ebay and was shipped as a gift. If the seller enters the true value of the item on the green form, then that's still reason enough for import duty to be imposed. Remember the government is on its ass and is looking for new ways to extort an already poor nation!

Sorry bud.

£176 intercoolers

£30 vat

£20 delivery

I'll have a word with em matey - cheers for your help :)
