I'm thinking about buying a brand new '08 model as I've seen a pretty good offer and I'm very tempted. At £7500 I need to think very carefully before I make such a purchase as spare cash is something I don't have but I'm just about to get a promotion with a reasonable pay rise and so I thought I deserved a present.

I'm 6' 1" ish and I'm worried about it being a bit small and weighty on my wrists. I've got a '96 FZR600R which is a lot more sports tourer than supersport and I'm concerned for the balance on comfort.

Any comments welcome.

Cheers.

My mate has a 07 r6 for sale, he wants 6k and hes got SH1T loads of extras on it.

Lovely bike but couldn't do it? I would have to get the R1. I might be getting a Thunderace soon. :D Old but at only £1500 all the thrills I could want.

mate has one of these....nice n sporty but a PITA if you're using it for anything other than a play thing, not a comfy bike at all. i'm toying with the idea of an SV650 sport (i need to behave myself, so this one makes sense) or maybe the Z750. hate making decisions!

My mate has been for a test drive on one and says they are amazing but like Vini said that for the extra he will have to get the R1.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm just about to take my bike test and was wonderign what bike to get. I've got about 5k and my choices are an R6, 600 ninja or gsxr600. I'm 6ft and 16 stone and will be using it daily as well.

I used to run a workshop for a large training rider school which also had a retail/workshop section.

I have not been on the new R6, but I have got to agree with the above. I am only 5' 10" but at 15 stone, I could be described as chunky.

When ever I had to test ride a customers R6, I would send the apprentice, as I just never felt right on one. It felt like I was perched on it like a cat on a wall.

At the moment I am on a VTR 1000 (Firestorm), which suits me just fine living in Germany. Its a decent mile muncher if you forgive the small tank range.

Anyone considering the SV650 will not be disappointed. Used to always have 2 on the rental fleet - they are just so versatile. Its the sort of tool that is very forgiving to the inexperienced rider, but works well with decent riders too. Is great as a back lane scratcher and does the distance nice. Also there is a huge after-market scene as well, so you can bolt on tacky anodized screens to your hearts content!

0% repayment for 3.5 years (£500 deposit) seems like good value finance.

This is the reason why I'm looking at a new one rather than getting used. I don't know any private sellers that do 0% apr.:D Might have to go and take one for a test ride on Saturday.

Hello mate,

I have a 53 plate R6 that I picked up less than an hour after passing my test and it's awesome! Despite the guys at the shop saying that I'm a nutter and I'll kill myself for getting a bike like that as a first bike, I'm still here to tell the tale ;) The insurance was by far the best too, through Yamaha themselves. It's down to less than 200 quid for me now!

As for the feel of the thing, I really like it. I'm 6'3" and close to 17 stone and it fits me better than any other 600.

Since getting the Zed though, it's been in storage and I am starting to consider selling it. Shame for it to sit there doing nothing!

There's places doing new ones for £6500

I had three but they were the old (pre 2005 models).

The latest one is good but I find it too uncomfy and revvy for road riding. Awesome track bike and they look sweet.

Cheers for the advice mate. I've sat on a couple and they seem to fit alright. The only bike that has felt small was a cbr400 i went to look at. Guess I'll have to wait till I can go out on one properly first. I had stopped looking at an R6 actually after hearing comments by people about it being a small persons bike but now its back at the top of the list! cheers pal!

No problem mate :) And it's true that they aren't the biggest of bikes but the riding position is lovely. The thing you've got to remember though, as they don't weigh that much they can be flicked around very nicely ;)

im 6 ft and find the r6 just right to be honest in size and power. had an r1 for a while but i prefer the r6. as splitfyr3 above says, its so easy to throw around and much more fun than an r1 with way more power and speed than you need on our roads. i also prefer the look of the new r6 compared to the r1. the r6 is stunning looking. i must admit though its my 2nd fav bike and the first is the honda sp2 . i just love the v twin torque and sound but for grin factor the r6 wins. good luck als on 19"s, you will love it.......
