Hey Guys,

Just been talking to the guys looking at my 300 and they say its about £700 labor but 5k in parts - HOWEVER they have used 350 parts as a guide as they cant find prices for a 300!

Is that right? can they do that, thought they would need to do it like for like? have asked the ins co but they say they will look into it but dont want them to rip me off.

Guys???? What guys?? Are you sure they are not monkeys with brains the size of peanuts.

Its a Nissan!! There are dealers. They have prices.

End of.

Or maybe they are going to rebuild your 300 into a 350Z:xxx:

We even have our very own Nissan dealer on this forum:headvswal

Thats what I thought, as i called the bodyshop directly and asked them what they thought etc and he said he could not find an exact match for the 300 so used 350 prices. is this legal? i called the ins co and they said that ther assosor would see this and question them about it but i have a feeling they would not bother.

Can I ask them to redo it with 300 prices by law? as at the mo its a write off. the body shop is one of the ins co's approved shops and they are doing the evaluating etc.

Your other problem is insurance co's price repairs up with new parts, or should i say the "guys" doing the quotes for them. Your best bet is get Paul@swz to give you a price for everything you need and send that to the insurance co. Your car is what 17 years old now. It doesn't need new parts from a dealership put on it. IMHO.

Best of luck getting it back on the road.

Yeah think they are pulling a fast one! cant see how they can legaly use new 350 part prices on a 300. be like using a top of the range citron price on a 2cv lol.

just want to be sure i am not being riped off, and 700quid work sounds like there is not to much damage then. really want to buy it back and a. break her as the engine was rebuild and only has about 10k max on it, infact i would say 4-5k and has never missed a beat. autobox replaced not log ago. and everything worked and evertthing was there.

or

b. FIX IT :D as a project.

You have 3 options then, if i was doing it.

1. get correct pricing done and hope insurance will pay for it.

2. Buy it back and fix it up

3. buy it back and then buy another car with say a dead engine and put you engine and box in that. If your lucky you could do this with the insurance money. Say you get 2K for it, buy back for 1K, but another car for £500 and £500 to do engine swap. Hasn't cost you a penny then. Not saying figures are correct but you may be able to work it that way.

similar thing happened to my mums celica. Was wrote of cost for repairs. Got £2500 for it, bought it back for £1200. Then got it repaired with second hand parts for £800. She made £500 out of it. Only now it shows up as a Cat D write off. But as she isn't planning on selling it, doesn't really matter.

Knowing Matt, he'll be doing the engine swap himself, so he's be saving even more money.

Goto Nissan main dealer if you want a parts price list for a 300ZX.

I did. Got the whole lot, schematics, serial numbers and price list.

£460 for a front bumper! £110 for a number plinth!

Then speak to Paul and ask about 2nd hand parts and charge the Insurance Co the full ammount and either pocket the difference, or get some additional work done for free. ;)

It sounds like the repair shop are playing you along.

I'd go somewhere else for your car repaired.

I would but its the ins co that arranged the shop, its also the one they use and aprove.

On a plus side though the collection of the car from here and taking it to them was very quick. but just dont think the shop are doing it right.

As for SWM1 thats a Yes! you think i would pay someone to do something i can do myself? lol

But you dont HAVE to go wih the "approved" monkeys. Just tell the ins company you are completely dissatisfied with their service(lack of) and get it moved to a more user friendly repair shop.

The inspectors are numpties :smash: I wrote off my first 300zx (nearly chopped the thing in half so no point buying it back ) When he turned up to look at it, he had to ask me what it was, AND how much it was worth!:headvswal:nono: I got over £6K back for it, so believed me!!:tongue:

Now thats an idea!

Just be carefull they don't load you with storage charges....

£50/pw soon mounts into hundreds...

sounds like they couldnt locate the 300zx,

so just found 350z, as the nearest match.

their error.

When my car was hit I basically told the insurance company I could source the parts a lot cheaper myself than any of there affiliates could. I asked them to send me a cheque and I would handle all of the repairs myself. I faxed them quotes for parts and repair (Including some second hand parts bought from on here) and they sent a cheque covering all of it with about another £150 on top.
