Ok this might sound a bit fast n furious and maybe chavvy.

What makes a Turbo car pop, back fire and flame?

I'm not after spark plug answer or BEE R rev limit thingys.

I think a car sounds awesome when it pops. It just adds that tunned sound.

Every car my brother has tunned done this but my 300 only does the very odd occasion but when it does it sounds awesome. Both his 200sx and RX7 done it. I believe this is because they are single exit exhaust systems complete free flowing.

My previous system was very restrictive. 2 1/4 pipes into a cheap back box and with a H pipe.

Would a complete 3" system from the tubs into a 3" pipe then 3" into the rear boxes help? Believe the rear boxes will be Siebring. still twin system but both pipes 3"

Members with heavy modded Zeds do they pop and spit flames? I've seen a few Zeds from the States which do.

unburnt fuel in the exhaust, my z will pop sometimes when you change up gear due to the dump valves venting and the ecu fueling for the undumped mass of air

Mine does it in second sometimes but its not very loud at all

My old mk3 supra used to give a proper loud pop when changing gear at high rpm, loved it!

I have 2.5" decats and a 3" abflug exhaust. and i never get any pops or bangs. only when slowing down

Depends on the car i surpose. the coupe i had did it in every gear??

Really??

mmm.... well guess i'll just have to wait n see.

Yeap got decats.

What about the big bhp boys? assuming they have complete free flowing systems and dumping lots of fuel into their engine. Does the likes of Macs do it?

Before mine siezed like i said it done it now n again but i had a very restrictive system.

yes Macs does and it sounds awesome. try and listen as he gets up the road the music is a bit loud but you can still here it pop mmmmmmloovely!!!

depends on the tune, not the mods themselves. eg, still dumping fuel into the engine when coming off throttle or hitting rev limit

My mini pops like a b*stard, spits flames too :) mind you i have altered the fuel mix in the carb :nelson:

Oh right ok, i get ya.

Thanks

It's easy to make a Z do it, you just need to remove the overrun fuel cut and then map it lean on the overrun sites.

Just ask bantambunny!

well you learn something new every day, i didnt know the zed had over run fuel cut.

I have to agree jaffa, i love it when my fireblade pops and bangs on overrun and hard gear changes, just makes it sound that much more...

My GSXR used to do it alot after i fitted the race can, especially after giving it some beans then slowing down entering a village etc

The zed sometimes does it when its really cold and not long been started, probably running rich till it warms up i guess.

Cool Stuff, has he got any vids :D

Not sure, just did it recently when mapping his car.

It's not balls out flame-spitting but does have a nice pop and burble. Could make it flame spitting easy enough though.

I've got straight through 3" pipes with tiny 12" silencers at the rear, jap club ecu chucks fuel in enough for 1.1 bar, still get no pops or flames on the over run. So follow John's method.

My rx-7 on the other hand used to throw 10 feet flames at 7.5k rpm changing gear, great at night!

how does this suit you jaffaz32

lovely car, whoz is it and those flames are crazy.....is that the method john dixon was about

Fas

It does look kinda cool but isnt it a bad idea to have uncontrolled explosions in the exhausts of a turbo`d car, wont the shockwaves hitting the impellers cause damage over time?

mine does it all the time pops n bangs for fun it seems to do it as i slow down ( back off the throttle) or gear down ...does it while changing up from 2nd to 3rd aswell...mines down to the unburnt fuel and zorst a think as it has a superchips chip n this just chucks as much fuel in as possible... quite funny actually pulling up at petrol station n it let out realy big bang n puff of smoke n flames guy behind me shit n jumped behind his car while filling up:D

On a more serious note, if the car was running OK and then starts banging through the exhaust, it usually indicates a valve problem, i.e. a burnt exhaust valve ( does not hold compression) that is letting petrol get pushed through into the exhaust where it fires when the plug sparks. I would check your compressions if this is the case.

get a Bee*R.

mental :)

had one on my 200SX.

dont think anyone has 1 on a Z??

think 300zx owners are a bit more....

sensible?

I like this sounds:
