I'm hoping to install a HID kit this weekend. Has anyone got the wiring diagram for the relay mod that allows you to flash the high beam leaving the HIDs off.

dim-dip is meant to be that your dipped headlights come on dim when you turn the side lights on, this would be bad for HIDs,

however i've never seen it on a ZED and my '91 UK spec didn't come with it perhaps it was only on the latter model UK cars????

Mine is a 91. I'm surprised this has not been brought up before - HIDs and UK cars. My kit, bought from DTA made no mention of it. If my understanding is correct the dim-dip setup could potentially damage the ballasts.

I will point Danny in the direction of this thread and see what his thoughts are.

i fitted hids to my old uk spec bought from danny... the dim dip simply didnt work once installed... im sure that no damage was caused...

As Ian says his car didn't have the dim/dip on his 91'. I suggest you connect the green box back removing your additional cable and see what happens when you turn on the lights and see if the hids stay on when you go full beam. Mine is a 93' series2 so may be different to your car, i didn't know there was differences in the uk models.

UPDATE

Firstly I've found that my dim-dip system wasn't working due to corroded terminals at the green dim-dip box. Now that is fixed my headlights do come on dim when the sidelights are on and the ignition is on - not good for HIDs due to the lower voltage. So on a UK car this needs to be bypassed as detailed by scottztt above.

However this does not solve the problem of the HIDs going off when full beam is activated. You still need to carry out the relay mod posted by groover (page 1) or by grounding the stock relay.

:bow: fitting my hid's soon and this is a gem..cheers mate

It solves the problem of using high beam whilst your headlights are on, but if you flash your lights whilst the headlights are off then the HIDs will flash too - which isn't good.

Your hids wont be on when you flash during the day as they will need to be turned on at the pod switch.

The relay mod, just stops the hids going out when the headlights are on and you flash or full beam.

I hope this makes sense, i know what you are after and doing the mod will do that, the only difference, was the fact you have a uk car with the dip/dim module.

I thought the main AND dipped beams flashed on during the day (when lights are off)

Thats why i thought people went to alot of trouble with the relay mod, as earthing only sorts one of the problems.

I may well be wrong but thats how i always understood it. :)

Correct!!!

I have done the grounding of the bulb trick as a temporary fix until i get chance to do the full relay mod. At mo my hids come on if i flash main beam during the day while the lights are switched off.

HTH,

Sean.
