I'm hoping to install a HID kit this weekend. Has anyone got the wiring diagram for the relay mod that allows you to flash the high beam leaving the HIDs off.

On mine the headlamp flasher only flashes the main beam...

HIDs on dipped. If switched to main beam HIDs stay on when main beam selected, but main beam not HID because of the startup if you needed to flash.

It's a 1995 Jap spec TT

Hope this helps

I dont have a wiring diagram but I do have a load of the correct diode things floating around.

Shout me if you want one.

Did yours come like this or did you mod it -If you did it - how?

Cheers.

Do you have a Jap or UK car ? I have UK and fitted hid lights but had to do extra work over the jap model to get hids to stay on on full beam and stay off on flash headlights. You could email luke at zcentre for the diagram, he might be kind enough to send it to you. If not i'll hunt mine out of the garge and scan it in and email it to you on monday.

It's a UK car. I've sent an email to Luke. If I don't hear back I'll take you up on your offer. Thanks

Well Luke doesn't have a diagram. Could you send me a copy of yours or describe the basics on here?

I'll get it out tonight, if i can find it. i'll take a photo and email it to you, i don't know how to put pics up on here. Don't leave your email just yet, i'll see if i can find it first. All i remember was i had to jumper some wires on a box behind passenger front wing, accessed via wheel arch.

If i can't find paper work, i'll pull the box out and see what i did to what wires.

Here you go hope this helps

Ta very much - thats exactly what I was after. Looks complicated  but i'm sure i'll manage.

That looks like the jap setup to me, uk is different and i didn't do a fifth of that lot.

Fair enough. I haven't compared those instructions to my car yet. If your way is simpler it'd be very welcome.

The conversion docs are supposed to be the correct way but, the easiest way to do it is to ground the dip beam bulb to the chassis, that way it stays on when using the high beam.

but that way the hids flash when you flash your beams with the lights off?

When you use your flash, ie during the day the HId dips wont be on, the way im lead to believe it, is that by grounding the dip bulb, it just stops it going off when you flash, with the lights on at night.

I could be wrong, but thats what ive been told, hopefully for those who have already done the mod will post up.

Sorry fpr the delay in replying....

Zedworld did mine and I'm putting HIDs in the fog lights next

To summarise,

Simply installing the HIDs without any mods results in HIDs going off when using high beam whilst lights are on = not good

You can earth either pin 5 of the existing relay or the ballast which results in HIDs remaining on when using high beam whilst lights are on = good, but HIDs will flash with high beams when lights are off = not good for HID life.

Groover's posted word doc is what I was orginally after. The HIDs stay on when using high beam when lights are on, but HIDs stay off when flashing when lights are off.

Now we're waiting to see if scottztt can show another way of doing it that achieves Groover's method. It's also unclear if JAP and UK cars are different.

What i did was the following. behind wheel arch passenger side there is a green box with 2 connectors going into it, has this number written on it 28575 37P10 PD9. 1 is 4 wire 1 is 6 wire. Remove the box then jumper/ connect the red with black strip together, there is one in each bunch of wires.

When i did this, the hids stayed on went full beam, hids stayed off when flashing head lights. This box is part of the dim/dip circuit. I then wire the ballasts to the cables going to the old low beam bulbs. Can't remember which is live or not, so you'll need to test with your lights on which is the live cable. This is important for the ballast or it will break. It's easy to try, just put a cable in the connectors for the red/black cables and see if it works for you, if not try another way.

Philp , this is comment on zcentres website

Designed for the Jap spec 300zx but can be fitted to the U.K spec 300zx's (dim-dip cct has to be removed) with the additional wiring cct details (available on request).

So no idea why luke said he didn't have a diagram. Sorry can't find mine, but explained what i did above.

Ta for the info. I've had a look at my car and can see the green box. Presumbably you had to unscrew it to get access to the wires? Have I read it correctly that you leave the red/black wires connected to the dim/dip module and simply run a cable (jumper) between them?

No, you completely remove the green box. Can leave it in place just unplug the connectors, if you can. Then put a similar size cable as the red/black to join up the red/black cables. hope that makes more sense for you.

Got you now. I've forwarded your reply to Luke to see if it jogs his memory.

I'm a little confused on what the dim-dip facility does on the UK cars. If I put the light switch on the first notch the side lights come on in the bumper, second notch the headlights come on.

Does anyone know what the dim-dip bit is?

dim-dip is meant to be that your dipped headlights come on dim when you turn the side lights on, this would be bad for HIDs,

however i've never seen it on a ZED and my '91 UK spec didn't come with it perhaps it was only on the latter model UK cars????

my series 2 uk had dim dip... my series 2 jspec doesnt..
