265 35 18 rear / 245 40 18 front?

Or is

265 35 18 rear / 245 35 18 front the better option?

Featured Replies

The 245/35/18 retains the closest to stock circumference.

You may have rubbing problems with the 40 profile. I had 245/35/19's which gives similar overall circumference as 245/40/18 had some rubbing issues over bumps, I was lowered too.

I believe the ideal is 265/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 front, so i would say the first option :)

will the 235s be ok on a 9inch rim? I was looking at the 245's cos they are 9's and wasnt sure they would stretch

Cheers Guys

I went for the 235 40 and 265 35 set up with Falken 452's. Had Toyos and Goodyear F1's before but thought I'd try these as I have heard good things.

Same set up as me mate, works great for me :D

A 235 is better option on a 9 j as a 245 looks a little bulky.

I want to run Falkens on 8.5J front and 9.5J rear, and have been recommended the following :

225-40-18 front and 255-35-18 rear

This seems far removed from Radron's and ZX-Eyes experience ?

My wheels are 8 front and 9.5 rear, and i am running 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear with no problems at all! When i was looking into tyres everyone i asked said that the above sizes are best to keep the rolling radius as close as possible. So thats what i did :D Also i am running Falken FK452's and they are great, Superb value for money IMO! :D

HTH :)

Offset will also have a big part in whether your tyres will rub. I'd rather fit a 285 to the rear of mine as I prefer the flat tyre wall look over the stretched look. Gives it a more aggressive and purposeful look.

Unfortunately, I think my rears might be to positive on the offset to except a 285 tyre, so will stick with the 265 for the time being. My fronts could easily accept a 245. They are currently a 235, on an 8.5" wheel with a +25 offset. Almost on the limit there without having to roll the arches, but still some space to play with.

Thats what my set up is and TBH I think 245's on the front will rub

Before @ +45, 245 would not have rubbed....see the horrible amount of ugly wheel gap. LOADS of room to fit very wide tyres. But, I hate wheel gap. So, that had to be the first thing to go!

Now with +25 offset and camber correction. It has a higher likelihood of rubbing, but still some scope for a slightly wider tyre.

If one was to go up a width AND a profile, then you have a higher chance of rubbing than you are with just a marginally wider tyre.

....it also depends on what suspension setup your car is running. Whilst stock suspension will be more forgiving, if I was on coilovers and lowering more than I am now, I may find rubbing issues.

wider front tyres is not always necessarily better, i have 225/40 which gives me a quicker turn in and response. I think. I still have room tho for wider when i feel like it.

No room at the rear tho :D

Just out of interest why did you go for a 40 profile and how wide are you front wheels?

The rolling radius is kept stock as the tyre is slightly stretched on the wider wheel so it lowers the profile. I think.

Speedo is pretty spot on. Matches the tom tom speed till bout 50mph.

I am looking for 35's on the rear at some stage they are just the same tyres i got when i bought the wheels so il wait till they are worn and go for a wider and lower profile on the rear once i roll out my arches.

I didn't think it made a difference for the front wheels as it's the rears or the gearbox that the speedo takes a signal from?

your right it doesnt, only the rear wheels will affect the speedo reading but the fronts still need to be in proportion.

Then why not keep even profiles?

ok im confused now!!

What i was trying to say is when you stretch fit a tyre you change the rolling radius and make it smaller so depending on what wheel sizes and tyre profile you have on the radius can vary on the front and rear. does that make sense?

Both my front and backs are on 40 and slightly stretched which brings down the radius thats why i have a 40 at the mo. :P
