I have had a look at threads and found loads of autobox issues. I have had my '90 ZX TWIN TURBO a week. Initially the box behaved as it should, but yesterday, on the way to work, it wouldn't engage past 2nd, and overdrive wasn't working. On the way back from work all was fine again (the car had been stood in heavy rain if that makes a difference). The speedo doesn't work - it is still restricted (though it may have been de-restricted and it is faulty). The speedo has been converted to mph. The car is an import obviously. The power light flashes 16 times on start up then goes out, which could just be related to the speedo fault.
I am hoping the fact it is intermittent means it is not serious. The box is perfect when it is working correctly, and it has only happened the once. There is no mechanical noise.
Any advice would be great. Apart from a brief chat with Zed World I know very little about these cars. I am aware of a temp sensor that may prevent overdrive from working. I am not 100% sure it wasn't selecting 3rd to be honest. I guessed it was in 2nd as switching down manually from D - 2 made no difference to the revs (at a sensible speed). Oh yeah, and sometimes the gear lever won't come out of park without pushing down the lever on the front of the stick (from start-up).
