I have just been out for a drive in the zed and wish I hadn't bothered.

First after it had warmed up I got to a set of traffic lights and noticed white smoke whilst it was idleing, which disappeared when I pulled off.

Parked up and went into some shops drove off back towards home and as I got to a another set of traffic lights it just died as I put the clutch in, started first turn of the key though, carried on driving still noticed a bit of smoke whilst idleing.

Then as I got home it was hard to put it into first gear and reverse.

Its not been my most enjoyable drive, it had been running ok for the last few months.

The white smoke sounds like the good old tubby seals as for the idling and gear issue , the only thing that links these together would be a vacuum leak somewhere as the clutch pedal has servo assistance and a vac leak could make it die on idle .

I like many others have got confused about the smoke issue as burnt oil gives blue smoke but when the seals at the rear of the tubbs are leaking the oil goes straight into the red hot exhaust down pipe and causes white smoke cos it hasn,t been drawn through the engine and been burnt , i,m sure someone will correct me if any of this sounds wrong bud . HTH

smoke could be pcv valves, mine does it when idling and facing down hill, get em cleaned/replaced first before you start going down the turbo route

I had problems with smoke a few months ago and put new PCV valves and pipes in which cured it for a while, so I was thinking it might be the turbo seals.

If it,s the pcv,s then any oil getting past these is drawn through the plenum and burnt in the engine usually giving blue smoke :confused:
