Morning,

Went down to the bodyshop to check the progress of my car (should finally have primer this week). Thing is they're trying to tell me my front Stillen polyurethane bumper is rubber and they will have problems painting it. Anyone ever heard such rubbish before?

Vijay

No.

They need to buy a £2.99 can of 'plastic adhesion promoter' spray that on the bare polyurethane then make sure they put plasticiser in subsequent coats of primer and the paint.

Thanks guys. Got my doubts about this bodyshop too :(

Mine was painted with no problems at all 3 or 4 years ago, its the Stillen polyurethane one as well, its just a case of using the correct primer and some plasticiser in the paint I believe but if they insist it will be a problem I can go and ask exactly what they used.

they're just convinced it's rubber and not polyurethane, told them it's been painted for years with no problems. Doesn't say much if they don't know how to spray a flexible front bumper though

lol, Pete, it's not my choice of bodyshop believe me, it's the place where the first place who screwed it up have taken it to. I couldn't find anyone who'd actually take on the job of doing my car as it was a right mess. Over 20 months so far and I reckon it'll be at least another month, I've got to get an award for the longest respray surely!! lol

No offense meant Vijay, as Im sure you know!;)

You most deffo get an award for your patience and perseverance. :D

I really hope you can get a result soon.

You should be going in to see them every 2 or 3 days and asking the same questions as to what they have been doing and when its going to be done. In a polite way of course. Keep chasing them and checking exactly what they are up to.

course I wasn't offended :) I'm going there again next Saturday and it should be in primer or about to be. If not words will be exchanged...................in a polite way of course! lol

Sad thing is I'm in no rush anymore, haven't had my Z for so long and way passed missing driving it as I've totally forgotten what it's like, hope I'll still like it! :D

il tell ya what its like. fooking scary iun the wet mate.

i still say your should of got your money back and gone to a propper sprayers. stop employing cowboys ffs. 20 months, this had better be one serious respray

all well and good saying that but I had a bout 5 bodyshops come and look at my car and they would either try and bump up the price by talking out of their backsides or they just wouldn't take on the job

The Stillen front bumper is not made in rubber never was and I very much doubt it ever will be.

Do you have the stillen logo etched in the drivers side front ?. This will confirm that it's an original. If that's the case it will be poly not rubber.

The fact that in it's natural form it's black, probably makes them think it's rubber.

I've had two original still fronts on mine (both the same bumper) both imported form the states, both have the logo and both were black poly when they arrived. The current stillen bumper on mine now has been there for over 4 years now. I've never had any bubble or paint flake with and I don't get any stone chips either which is quite surprising, they just seem to bounce off.

Hello bud,

Deffo an original, did have the Stillen symbol till they filled it in :wack: IIRC Mike Feeny imported it for me.

They just wouldn't accept it was poly.

Well I hope you get it sorted.

I keep saying it Wrexham AutoKraft. They do all the Toyota, Audi and VW work in the area and the finish is superb. They aint cheep but they are quick and so far I havent seen a better paint job than the one They did on my blue car. They took all the glass out and painted every where apart from the engine Bay (which was done later). Pity that the last paint job on the car wasn't as good but you learn your lesson.

They aint cheap...

Have you ever met anyone who is good who is cheap, I sure as hell havent. You gets what you pay for.

Vijay get that car into a decent sprayers before they fook it up and your there for another 20 months.

It wont take you 5 minutes to ask the Ricers round your way which sprayers are worth going to for a decent spray
