Ok my car is running rich and im getting black smoke when blipping on idle.

today i noticed a nice black damp spray on the ground where my drivers side exhaust is not so much on the passenger side. which means im getting loads of unburnt fuel spraying out.

I just changed the 555 chip to JD one and now it seems to be miss firing on boost

I also get hesitation when blipping throttle which makes it hard to pull away

Ive had it on conzult (thanks Vjay) and lambdas were buggard so ive changed those, everything else seemed ok, running temp etc. tps i think is reading fine.

Ive done a boost leak test and all is fine.

I havent done a fuel pressure test tho.

Would it be worth removing the carbon canister as these can sometimes get blocked although i doubt this has anything to do with my problem.

So what else to check/do?

i was having problems with chips, when i fitted my 555s

i got a 555 devlin chip off andy p . and ran fine after that.

dont know if this will have anything to do with your problem or not ?/

but may be worth a try

To be honest from the beginning i knew it wasnt chip or ecu related.

Its got to be a sensor or fuel pressure problem. But why would it start missing on boost now? could it be a faulty maf or ptu now?

are you sure it's not just a mixture of the extra fuel from warming up and condensation? If you're letting the car warm up on the drive could it not be that?

just a thought but any chance of your egr valve being buggared , think you can unplug it to find out

egr is bypassed.

Possibly, but its a black colour. suppose it could be mixing with the old carbon in the exhuast.

that's what I think it is, extra fuel on start up mixing with condensation will give you a black liquid spurting out of the exhuast

Yeah which is running rich then?

Gota do a fuel pressure test soon. is it suppose to be about 45psi?

anyways still doesnt explain miss fire on boost :(

yup between 44 - 46 so 45 is perfect.

Mine was running at 18 psi LMAO !!.

Sorted it now though thanks to Topless.

Do you have an adjustable FPR ?

Can't say for your chip but mines along the lines of a JWT and IIRC it overfuels onwarm up. Yours might do the same mate

Are you certain you have all the vacumn lines connected up right ?

Fuel pressure will only be a problem (running rich wise) if it is over, not under.

Suggest you ignore the missfire and concentrate on the hesitation, take a look at these, if you haven't already :-

thats what i think, i think the spark is being blown out , have you tried a colder plug ? if you have upped the boost , check the gaps again Jimmy

plugs were gapped by garage who did the rebuild they are new.

Boost is on standard at the moment :(

plugs are however coked up coz of rich running. and im fed up of taking them out and cleaning them, and before you ask, no i havent dropped and decreased the gaps on the plugs i was very careful. :D

why are you still pissing about with this, did it go back to the garage?

Apologies if I've missed a thread / post explaining why.

Basically coz i know the problem is just a real simple one but hard to isolate, The garage is 50 miles away from me so not exactly a short drive.

I paid for a complete internal rebuild which is what i got, id rather try to sort this myself as i know my mechanic will just fob me off with some excuse as to why its down to me and my ecu/chip etc so i juat cant bother with the hassle of getting all the way down there for him to just tell me oh its probably a bad chip/spark/plug fpr etc.... Il just end up buying more parts which he thinks may be the prob, il be out of pocket, call me anal but id rather do this myself :D

i understand your predicament... and it is a shame really :(

the person who built my zed bent over backwards to help me out when i had the slightest of problems but i can imagine a company like that feeding you with rubbish and charging you a fortune!

hats off to 'jimmer enterprises'...

jimmer try running it standing still minus the air filter , seeif it impoves !! over fuelling could be caused by air starvation ..blocked filter or air intake pipe !! just a thought mate

Okay, i noticed before you said Scott gapped these, they should already be pre gapped and ready for fitting.

Am thinking that if the car is perfectly alright except on boost, possibly a plug or coil pack is breaking down. The PTU when warm/hot fails most and reduces the voltage to one or more coils.

If your happy the car runs well except this, why not when time allows take a trip to see a Zed specialst who knows what all snesors/connectors etc should be doing and when.

Knwon guys here to spend days/weeks trying to solve a niggly problem which has then quickly spotted by a specialst easily.
