Hi does any one know what other nissans had the r230 diff and what are the ratios thanks taff.

I believe the TT Zed is unique to the R230, but there were other nissans that shared the R200 diff of the NA Zed, such as the skyline, 200sx, Q45 and 350z.

They used different Internal ratios however.

Found this on the net/The R230 has been in two cars AFAIK. The 90-96 Q45 and the 90-96 300ZX Turbo. All R230s are LSD, and 230 is the ring gear diameter. The Q used larger diameter CV shafts than the 300. The Q's ratio was 2.54, and the 300 was 3.692.

Yep

I enitially put a NA subframe and diff on my old Blue car, but was told that the power would kill it. So after having it all poly bushed etc I put my original TT back on and had that poly bushed. A week later one of the Yanks told me i should have just got a R32 gtr diff and drive shafts as it was as strong as the TTdiff and the same ratios and kept the NA sub frame:headvswal:headvswal

I'm sure I read on the UAS website that the GTR diff was some 20Kg lighter than the TT diff. Anyone know if that's true? Sounds like a big saving and more like what I would expect from switching subframe (ie scrapping HICAS).

If the 20Kg is diff alone then it would be worth considering.

Yep, the R200 from the NA and the GTR is 20kg lighter

the NA subframe and driveshafts lighter too...I've not weighed the 2 yet though...

Is this a big job to switch subframes?

I'm fitting a Quaife Diff with the NA ratios but..... will still have the pooie TT subframe. Hicas has been eliminated.

your quaife and leadergears are for the r230 diff which will need the tt subframe.

The tt subframe minuse hicas weighs about the same as a na subframe.

The weight advantage here is by switching to a r200 diff which needs the na subframe to mount it.

Oh i get ya. I think the Quaife diff is lighter than a stock TT one so i should save some then.

Think I'm going to put the R200 on mine too once its running.

Other point is that quaife do a direct supply R200 ATB so you don't have to buy from the states at a premium like the R230 one.

Anyone know what ratio diffs were in the 200SX? Be nice to get something mega short like a 4.4. NA TT is 4.1 so will suit my engine better than the 3.69 TT one.

Doh, wish i knew that before shelling out for mine, major expensive. especially with duties.

the R32 GTR uses a 4.3 on the R200 , unsure about the SX

Cheers Paul/Dave.

Did some digging too and as you say, R32GTR 4.36, but also Serena (GA16DE petrol) has a 4.66 R200!

Think I may have to look for one of them, should be dirt cheap.

In gear speeds:

Stock TT, 7krpm 43,72,106,138,183

VH50DE, 9krpm, 4.36diff 47,79,117,152,202

VH50DE, 9krpm, 4.66diff 44,73,108,141,187

Not at all bothered about loosing top end, would gear it lower if I could. The 2l diesel serena in aus is supposed to have a 4.66 Visc LSD too.

For R230, shortest option seems to be leader gears.

I'd worry about low speed traction if you go that far though ?

Nah, I like my cars twitchy and alive! Also, being NA there isn't the torque rampup ilke a turdo coming on boost so won't be such a big problem.

so, are all the r200's as strong as each other? Is it just a case of picking the ratio of your choice and stick a quaife( or plate) lsd in there if you feel like it?

What about the halfshaft's?

I see there are aftermarket covers available for the 200sx to increase oil capacity too.

Does the quaife for the r200 also convert to equal length halfshaft like the r230 one?

Strength I have no idea to be honest, guess it's a suck it and see. I'm thinking that dimensionally they all will be the same so other than the pinion being a bit smaller on the higher number ones I don't see why not. In theory it should just be as you say, pick ratio, fit diff and go.

Halfshafts, hoping to be able to use NA 300 stuff, as for converting to equal length, no idea.

On the 230 one do you use 2 of the shorter shafts and the diff has a longer output flange on one side? Good idea if it does.

ouch! Although that was Mac_1 power and with Slick tyres. I've heard of high powered examples snapping the driveshafts when launching at the drag strip with slicks too.

Im not happy with my TT diff, its very noisy jerking and clunky was thinking of something with a higher ratio but i dont wanna loose to much top end so i suppose its one or the other then?

You'll still hit 165+ with a NA diff, but it will get there much quicker !

more likely your diff/subframe bushes than the diff itself

Diff bushings. subframe bushings new so ive come to the conclusion my diff has had it ;)
