Posted July 17, 200816 yr My car has failed its MOT with excessive play in the front lower ball joint at the hub end of the lower transfer link (not the only thing). This bit Does anyone know whether this is going to require a whole new transverse link, or just the ball seat? Also does anyone know the part numbers (or where I can get either of them from)? cheers JK
July 17, 200816 yr its abit dubious that, anyway as far as I know thats integral to the lower arm and cannot be replaced seperately.
July 17, 200816 yr Author I've had a look on twinturbo.net and it looks like a new lower arm includes the ball joint, which can be succesfully pressed in/out (if you can find a replacement), but there is a risk of damaging the arm in the process as it's apparently a bit flimsy. The ball seat is a separate cone shaped bit of metal which just sits on top of the ball joint, but I don't think that replacing it is going to do much good (which is a shame as it looks cheap). Does anyone know how much a lower arm costs and has anyone been able to source and fit a ball joint separately?
July 17, 200816 yr a new lower arm will include the ball joint, when my lower arm disintegrated on me I sourced some lower arms from the chaps on here, if its new one your after then speak too dan@DTA or Mike feeney. Other wise check out courtesy nissan, you'll find them online but there a US based company so the money you save by the pound/dollar difference may be lost on postage and taxes etc...
July 17, 200816 yr there about $150 new from courtesy nissan, but then you'll have to allow for postage etc...
July 18, 200816 yr Author Thanks Dutchy, I tried my local Nissan dealer based on part numbers from the Courtesy site, but they couldn't find them and even if they could track down the part it would be an estimated 3-6 weeks (it's apparently quite an old car) Spoke to Mike and I should have replacement ball-joints for 35 GBP per side by Monday :)
July 18, 200816 yr Try a company called moog not sure on the stockist, do a sxoc search may help. Ifitted some on A s13 2000sxs basicaly the same .Undo circlip under neath a smash out with a hammer press new one in with a strong vice and a socket.S13 balljoints have a diffrent taper to s14 thats why people press out s13 and fitt s14 ones for a 5 stud swap on a s13 .s14 maywell be the same as Z32 not sure worth a try .;)
July 18, 200816 yr Im pretty sure they can be pressed out so no need for a new arm. Ive seen bottom ball joints on sale somewhere also, try mjp & courtesy parts. Or buy a good used lower arm from Paul swz.
July 18, 200816 yr If i remember right S14 and Z32 ball joints are the same, ill call my ex workplace tommorrow and find out, if they are then the ebay item no is 380041867355
July 19, 200816 yr Just checked and it seems there is a different taper on the ball joints, spoke to Pete at Autojap and he said he's got them in stock and he'd do them for £35 plus vat per side for 300zx or Z club members his number is 02476 474848
