I don't know an awful lot about car audio. Now I've replaced my headunit, run new cabling to it, run an RCA lead to the sub output from the boot, along with a switch and power cable. I have an amp in the boot to power a sub. That's all ok. What I am wanting to do now is to amplify the main 4 speakers as I'm just not getting the definition I want.

I want to hide the amp as I'm not really into installs. I want to know if you can buy small amplifiers that would be man enough to power the speakers, but small enough to hide under the dash behind the glove box or something?

Or if anyone's got any other ideas, I'm all ears. Not really wanting to buy an expensive amp to power the lot, nor am I wanting to run yet more. cables to the back of the car.

Genesis Profile series. Best quality I have heard and more than capable of powering comps as the RMS figures stated are always under tha actual output.

I have a Genesis Profile amp hidden under my passenger seat. It's used to drive the two rear speakers but you could get an amp in there to drive all 4 no problem.

was going to suggest putting it under the seat also

Yeah if you are hiding it, make sure it's not concealed as they can get quite hot hence the heat sinks and fans :)

Most decent ICE outlets would do this for you. I was lookng at a good set of composites and the whole kit came with an amp to power the speakers.

Don't you mean component vin? ;)

Steve, if they'll fit under a seat with all the electrics there, then one should be able to fit under the dash somewhere. It won't be too hidden away, I'll try and make it a ventelated area.

I've had a look at the Genesis amplifiers on their site. They list the Profile Four as being 4 x 50w. Now my headunit is already 4 x 50w? So, no real difference?

I know I need to take into account RMS values of the speakers etc...which I know nothing about. So if anyone can explain in layman's terms what I need, I'd be grateful.

read the specs at the back of the manual, it's probably more like 4 x 15 genuine RMS watts, and even it is genuine 50w, the 50w the genesis puts out will sound far superior. Power output is only one measurment for an amplifier, and a fairly insignificant one in my opinion. My home hifi rates itself as 30 watt per channel (Naim Audio) but it would blow any of these supposedly multiple hundred watt mini systems you get out of the water.

Genesis rms values are always under rated. They will come with individual testing certificates and expect c.70rms if 50rms is claimed.

A 50watt Genesis amp will be at least 4 times the power than your head unit. They are way more powerfull than the 50 watts. each amp is bench tested before sale and the actual power is printed on the paperwork that comes with each individual amp.

Thanks guys. Mega money then! LOL. I haven't got a price for one yet, but I guess they are £500+.

A Profile 4 amp is about £300 IIRC. They are Genesis entry level range, so not as expensive as the Series 3 range.

Have you thought about Ebay, as they are virtually bullet proof amps and a second hand amp will be fine.

I have had a look on ebay and not seen one since I started looking.
