Does anyone know if there is any advantage/disadvantage to fitting a 1994 UK Auto TT ECU into my 1990 UK Manual TT?.. I know the auto/manual issue is compatable, I'm thinking more about the year difference?

I will be having it socketed and re-chipped aswell.

Thanks :)

Yes, I believe that '94+ ECU's are all 16-bit units which can not be chipped. Most owners of late model cars actually "down grade" to an older 8-bit ECU to have it chipped. IIRC the only difference between the late and early model ECU's is emmissions control. Also, I think only JWT have a solution for chipping a late model ECU by adding a piggy-back ECU = very costly.

PS - I stand to be corrected on the actual year that 16-bit ECU's were introduced.

What about a 98-00 spec ECU for a 89 Jspec. Can that be swapped over at all? Its not really a something i think ill actually do but if i can get my hands on a 98 - 00 spec ECU i would like to add it to my 89 z:).

The 16-bit ECUs probably have ODB-II management interface, apart from that I don't know what the differences would be. Also, they will probably have been de-tuned for emissions over the years, so in reality probably no advantage whatsoever to replace an 8-bit ECU with a 16-bit one.
