Flamin heck that's alot of oil, i'm 99% certain your out by a litre. Strange as it may sound for such a large engine, but it actually only holds a small amount of oil in comparison to other cars. 3.2 litres without oil filter change and 3.5 with filter, that's why it's important to keep an eye on the oil level for these babies. To be 100% certain though anyone with a 300zx hand book should be able to confirm this for you.

P.S i've switched to Castrol RS now, a tad thicker than Mobil 1.

Dont have a handbook but with the Filter change on a Twinturbo you are looking at about 3.625 Litres of Oil

Basically get 4L's and keep a good eye on the level.

Craig - You did put the Drain plug in before filling didn't you hehe :)

whenever i use Mobil1 to do oil and filter change, it takes just a bit more than the 4 litre bottle you buy it in.

and i thought 4.5 litres was a small quantity for an engine, what sort of lawn mowers have you been driving smithy ;)

i wont have access to my handbook until the weekend, so if anyone else has one and wants to check....

Okay boys i hate to be a "told you so" but have just got me hands on the hand book and it's 3.0 litres without filter change and 3.4 with filter change, put 4.5 in and you'll be smoking like a chimney, guess i'll have to see how my lawnmower goes from now on, ever be passed by a lawnmower craig?????

This can be aranged!!!!

Craig's car has done so many miles that it probably uses that extra half litre just while he's putting the filler cap back on !

well, all i can say is, erm.. erm..

i'll pay more attention when my oil gets changed next, i might even ask the chap while he is doing it ;0

and .. ahem.. excuse me Mr Hairs, but i'll have you know that my car uses hardly any oil, depsite it's well travelled life... ;)

be careful, else i'll set Sid onto you !!

Hi,

Just changed my oil again (Castrol RS), and the engine seems to take the full 4 ltr bottle...despite what the handbook says.

JEZ

If you look in the Owners manual it says 4.5 litres with filter. Is there a difference with the imports? I doubt it but looking in the varied responses it sounds possible. Am I the ONLY one with the owners manual??? lol

I have a manual, but it's in the car...and it's raining!

The import cars don't have an oil cooler fitted, which reduces the capacity...I think!

Jez, between us I think we could solve everybody's problems!!! ;)

Fancy starting a consultancy??? ££££££££

PS Are you following me around this forum or something!

Mine is an import and it seems to take the full 4.0l with a filter change. Brings the level up to just about max. Doesn't really use any until the next change, which I do about every 3000.

nico is near spot on done two yesterday both used less than 4 litres 3.7 to be exact.

The capacity of the oil cooler is only a issue if you remove it while doing the change !

I wouldn't recommend over filling with oil either, I like to leave it just over the half way mark.
