While ago had really bad tooth ache, went to the dentist.... she did what she had to and for a few weeks it was fine....

Last week it started playing up again, back to the dentist yesterday and I have to wait for a hospital appointment to come through and go get my wisdom teeth taken out

I've heard such horror stories.... people having their jaws broken, cut open, pulled and tugged at to get them out, and staying in hospital for days or being signed off work for weeks....

Obviously it depends on the teeth and the structure of your mouth .... but the bottom line is I'm shitting myself

I don't do dentists, after having braces for like 4 years and drilled, poked and prodded to get ultra straight teeth to now having to have one taken out is scaring the living daylights out of me... :( Especially everyone at work telling me their horror stories!!

I'm on 2 different types of antibiotics and was taking an average of 8 pain killers a day, but now been subscribed stronger ones....

Anyone had theirs out.... is it really that painful getting them extracted?:cry:

I have one of those stupid irrational fears of the dentist so when i go, if I need anything more than a check up, I need to be knocked out otherwise it just ain't gonna happen. I had my two top wisdoms taken out about 3 years ago and there was more pain and suffering before than during or after. In and out in about an hour and back at work the next day. Apparently I was quite amusing when I came round from the general anasthetic (sp), didn't have a clue where I was or what I was doing!!!!!! I had sat back down in the waiting room, picked up a guys newspaper and was holding it and he asked me if he could have it back and I just kept saying "what paper, haven't seen one".

shame on you, laughing at my painful experience! :slap:

LOL sorry, yours is nothing to laugh about, but Bri and Alan are just off there rockers :D

It's nice to know there are others that are 'too far gone' makes me feel happier :D hehe

about 10 years ago my dentist made an apointment for me to have my wisdom teeth out at the hospital. i chickened out and didnt go.

all was fine for about 5 years until one wisdom tooth decided to come through and shatered the tooth next to it as it came out. jaw got infected, 2 weeks of antibiotics before i could open my mouth enough for the dentist to get the pliers in my mouth.

about 2 hours in the dentist to get it removed including him having his feet up on the chair to get enough leverage to get it out (and he's not a small bloke- for those of you into wwe imagine kain when he was in the dentist phase , isaac jankem i think he was called), a swolen face for about a week and constant problems from the adjacent tooth (just had the nerve removed for the second time last month as it had grown back and had me in tears)

so the moral of the story: go to the hospital, take the general, less pain all round

you should be ok. Hope you are.

My horror story would be i got gas and put to sleep. Afterwards they could not revive me and apparently i was going into a coma. They were crapping themselves. My

Dad was the one who got me round. Then i couldn't walk or anything :(

well that explains a lot then:tongue::D

got all 4 took out on the same visit, had a reaction to the anaesthetic and had the jitters for hours afterwards just couldnt sit still. couldnt open my mouth properly for nearly 2 weeks lol. The worst thing is the holes they leave take ages to close forever trying to pick bits of food out of them which is quite difficult when your mouth wont physically open.

HTH :nelson::D:D:D

Had all 4 of mine out at the same time, not a great experience:( mouth swells up and you look like a hamster and cant open your mouth very much...lots of painkillers required for about 2 weeks

With me not opening my mouth much.... means less talking :D Everyone will be chuffed

Seriously not liking this though :(

So scared... I don't do hospitals, can't even go visiting without going all faint. :(

And if anyone tries to put something in my mouth, they will be punched angry-smiley-185.gif .. best they put me under!

All these horror stories are not doing Athene any good!

Speak to your dentist about the procedure (which I assume you've already done) and then make sure that the surgeon who is performing the procedure knows that you are frightened of the situation. They understand that and will most likely be very accommodating and aware of your fear.

In truth, the biggest fear you can have is not knowing what is going to happen. If you are kept fully informed of what's happening then you will automatically be less afraid.

Everybody reacts differently to having teeth pulled (be they teeth, molars or wisdom teeth). I had my two wisdom teeth removed many years ago and have never had any problems. All under local anaesthetic and kept fully informed of what they were doing. After the procedure I was given pain killers but never needed them. In fact, I was able to drive home within 30 minutes of the procedure. That's how I reacted to the situation.

So, Athene, I know it is a scary thing but the best way to arm yourself against fear is to be well informed. Good luck girl.

I had all 4 out on the same day in hospital. Hurts like hell good luck.

I've had the worst 48 hours of my life...

The horrible thing though, is its not the tooth thats sore anymore - thats about as numb as it can get - its the whole nervous system around it... the side of my head, temple, ear, throat - thats the bugger right now...

As soon as I put my head down, its like a stabbing pain right through the side of my head... sit up, cry or whatever and fook knows why but when and if I cry - i know it sounds daft but its feels like preasure releases and it goes away (hard to explain). The only shitter being when I pop my head back down again ..... about 10 min later - its back :(

I've stopped talking the antibiotics - don't think they were helping much and might be the cause of the pain tbh - havent had it today since i stopped and managed to sleep a few hours.

The 8 pills in 24 hours increased to 12 in 12 hours yesterday  (200mg ibprofen stuff)

Oh and I still havent got my letter through to get the tooth out

Have chilled on the pills.... when i took the last ones in the box this morning - shat myself @ how many I'd taken... not taken any since this am.

I was going to go up to the hospital last night but don't want to be a pain in the ass... they have more pressing issues than a tooth to deal with.. maybe i'll have the letter tomorrow... thats what I keep saying :)
