Couple of questions:

1) I have the original Radio Cassette and CD Player in my car. It all works, aside from the CD Display has died. I have just brought a SONY CD head unit. What do people have in place of the CD player in their cars. I.E. The slot underneath, in my old 200SX I had a small compartment with a spring loaded flap.

2. Are the rear speakers 4x6? I put some Kenwood ones in my 200 and you could hardly hear them? Are they worth getting, which are the best and is there a better option. I don't want to go mad?

Thanks,

Martin

Hi,

My CD has the same blank display + it now spits out every cd you put in it

I removed it from the dash yesterday, it's all in one assembly along with the radio.I believe you can get a centrally mounted speaker to fit in the space underneath.

I've delayed in replacing mine, as you also have to overcome the amplifiers attached to the front speakers...it's not a simple swap over.

Might just see if I can get a 2nd hand CD player that works for now!(I left a good Kenwood player in my last car as well!)

You can get a storage bin from Nissan dealers to replace the CD player. It only costs a tenner.

Amplifiers attached to front speakers ?

Arse, I was planning to swap in the short term for a spare Sony head unit I've got.

Not that straightforward then?

Storage bin for spare hole!

What about a Equalizer or an MP3 player

or second amp ... sorry getting carried away.

I really am going to upgrade now. My wife and I just bought a Renault Scenic as a family hack and the Philiips ICE system in that blows my stock Z system into the weeds!!! Even got a six stack CD unit ... Not fair!

I have since found out - after fitting, amd speaking to luke at the z centre, that the amp is for the rear speakers.

It's in the back of the car, in one the surround of one of the suspension towers. You have to take the covers off to get at it - I haven't tried yet. I'm going to have a go this weekend. With the original (Clarion) unit I wasn't getting any sound out of the rear speakers, so either the speakers are knackerd or the amp is. Either way with my new head unit feeding upto 50W into the amp it probably is now!!

The storage bin is a good location for mounting an AVC-R ;o)

OK here goes:-

The amp IS in the rear of the car - it is on the off-side wheel arch. To get to it, simple remove the off-side rear speaker. The reason the rears aren't working if you've fitted a non-standard head unit is that you've not connected the remote wire to turn the amp on. I had this problen as well but figured it out after fiddling. The wire is on the connector for the rear speakers and is the only one not paired up in a vertical line (yes that is the best way I can describe it!). On mine I think it was greenish. There is a diagram on the original head unit. This wire to turn the amp on should be connected to the p.cont or remote or whatever it is called (depending on make) which is blue on my Kenwood unit.

As far as front speakers go, standard 6.5" speakers go in no probs.

I dare anyone to go as far as I did and fit component speakers - this means cutting holes in the door cards for the tweeters! Go on - just grit yer teeth and do it!!! ;)

Hope this helps if you've not solved it already. If you have any problems stereo-wise - give me a shout, I'll try and help.

Andy,

I hear what you`re saying on the tweeters, i cut Marks door cards to fit a pair, not nice!

Later

Bob
